Are we all stuck in high school?

On Nadia’s blog yesterday, she quoted a friend of hers as saying, “We’re basically as mature as we’re ever going to get by the age of 16, after that it’s all just layers of sediment.” Nadia added, “I see the truth in that. How when you’re hit the wrong way, when you aren’t expecting it - you revert back to your [high school] self.”

I think that’s absolutely true–at least it is for me. I’m stuck at fifteen most of the time. To the world I may appear mature enough to own a car and a house and to be married and sign my own checks, but I know that inside I’m still basing my decisions on emotions and judgments and wishes I’ve had since I was young.

What do you think? Are we all still in essence the people we were in high school? Or do some of you really feel as grown up as your body and birth certificate say you are?

In some ways,I’d like to think I’ve come a long way since high school where Emily Dickenson had more of a social life and people skills than I did:)

On the other hand,I truly don’t feel as old as my age-sort of sitcom young emotionally at best.

“Where Emily Dickenson had more of a social life and people skills than I did”–ha!

I revert when I’m reminded of my nemesis. Yes, I had/have a nemesis. She was evil. And she still is. I loathe her.

    Is that petty enough? ;)

  4. robin Says:

Yes, Heather, come over here and sit by me. We have much in common.

    Lord, I hope not.

Also, why do I always have to reenter my personal info every time I comment here? Is there a way to avoid that?

  6. robin Says:

Diana, sorry it’s a pain to log in here. Unfortunately, there’s no way around having to enter information in the name and e-mail fields, but the site should be remembering you off the first few letters you type into each field. Isn’t it?

Also, you don’t have to enter your website information, but it’s nice if you do because then people can link to you right off your name on the comment.

This is the high security lovingly installed by WordPress and BJ to cut down on spam, even though I still get plenty. That’s also why I have to moderate these comments, to keep all the on-line gambling and Viagra ads off. Drives me crazy.

Again, sorry for any inconvenience. I love that all of you stop by, and I’m trying to keep it easy.

My info is remembered when I visit.

I think it depends on your cookie settings.

There’s no question that I’m still roughly 16 in my mind. I think that’s why I like writing for teens so much. :)

Some day, I’ll feel old enough to drink legally.
