Are you a rejuvenile?
I was listening to this great piece yesterday on NPR about the rejuvenile movement–adults returning to their childish roots. Rather than collecting toys to resell on eBay, these adults actually take them out of the box and play with them. They throw goofy theme parties, they go with adult friends to Disneyland, they settle marital arguments with Rock’em Sock’em Robots.
Back when I was practicing law, I spent a terrible year defending DUI clients (don’t worry, I wasn’t very good). I found comfort in those days by wearing a Kermit the Frog watch and keeping a slinky on my desk. (I also wore mini-skirts to all my sentencing hearings, but that was a different pathology.)
These days my work is play. I don’t need toys in my office because what I write is my toy. But I’ll still drop everything to go see a superhero movie, I love to read young adult books, and at parties I prefer the company of children over adults. Does that make me immature? Whatever. It makes me happy.
What toys do you still play with? Do you have a theme lunch box? Do you like costume parties and trips to Disneyland?
What are you doing to please your kiddish side while you’re out there pretending to be an adult?

The guy you’re talking about was on The Colbert Report about two weeks ago… speaking of The Colbert Report, do you watch it? He had Amy Sedaris on two nights ago, and it was like the best seven minutes of TV interview time I’ve ever seen!

It’s really great and funny on its own, but even better when you understand that they have all been doing comedy together for like 15 years.
Now that’ll keep you young!

Lizzie, I just watched that clip. Fun! And for those of you who aren’t familiar with Amy Sedaris’ new movie, Strangers with Candy, the joke of her interview with Stephen Colbert is that he co-stars in the movie, yet pretends to know nothing about it.
