Blog prom date
You know how on Seven Impossible Things Before Breakfast, Jules and Eisha always ask the people they’re interviewing, “Which blog or site would you take to the prom to show off and you love it so much you could marry it?”
Well, now’s your chance.
Because we have this party going now, and it seems silly to just confine it to ourselves. I mean, as much as I like to believe that Denzel Washington and everyone else I care about in the world is reading my blog every day, I’m concerned that might not be true.
But a lot of you have blog pals, or other blogs you like to comment on, and so now’s your chance to meet those people face-to-face, too.
Invite them.
Invite your Read Rogers and Chasing Rays and Cynsations, and any authors or illustrators whose work and/or blogs you enjoy (like maybe this guy?), and whomever else you’d like to take to the blog prom. Why not? Who knows when any of us will have the chance to meet each other in the flesh otherwise? Besides, some of those people may want a reason to be in Chicago on October 6. You never know.
So get over your shyness, send your blog crushes and blog pals a copy of this post, and let’s MAKE THIS THING A PARTY!
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Julie McCoy
P.S. I’m inviting Fuse.

I think I’d want to bring Wil Wheaton’s blog, because I feel like I’m just a geek, too.

Can I bring a blind date? I just saw this post, and although I’ve never visited or even seen this blog before, I’m in love.

(The post is “A Call to Action” on June 27, in case the link changes.)
I’ll be bringing a few other dates, too, just gotta find their phone numbers.

Yes to Wil, yes to Whimsy! Isn’t Whimsy’s idea just the sweetest? I’m going to do it.

Markus Zusak. He doesn’t blog though.

Invite him! I’ve heard nothing but nice things about that guy. Plus I’ll be speaking with him at a conference in November, and it’s always fun to get to know people ahead of time.
So send him this post and invite him!!!
Which brings up a point: I was thinking about asking some other kids’ and YA authors to come, bloggers or not. What do you think? And whom should I invite?
June 27th, 2007 at 6:08 pm
Actually, Vivian, I realized that’s not fair. I’ll invite Markus.
Are there any other YA and children’s authors anyone wants me to invite? Who knows if they’ll come, but it’s worth asking.
June 27th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
C’mon. You know.
No, not him. I’m sure he wouldn’t come.
John and Hank Green, of course.
Oh, and M.T. Anderson, because he knew my blog.
And Cecil, because she seems super cool.
Okay, now I’ve named all the YA authors that I met, but that don’t really know me. That should cover it.

Okay, Mother Reader, I’m on it.
June 27th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
I sent a bunch of people the invitation, including my husband. He’s one of the original bloggers (6 years and running).

Yay, Alkelda! Good work!

Well, Michael Shanks would be a cool blog to invite.

I still really want to meet Roger Sutton and, say, have a drink with him.

Oh, Emily’s idea is great! So is she — she was on the Cybil Picture Book committee with me last year. She’s your picture book gal, for sure.

Robin, What about inviting these Chicago bloggers? I think their literacy bookstore looks so cool.
