For those of us who enjoy our self-help
So I wouldn’t cry uncontrollably as I tried to clean my office yesterday (actually, it wasn’t that bad–huge progress in only an hour), I decided to distract myself with some NPR interviews. I came across this one from New Year’s Day, which was perfect–funny, interesting, distracting.
If you don’t have time to listen to the whole interview, take a look at the opening chapter of Beth Lisick’s Helping Me Help Myself, which is just as funny as her interview–if not more so, since it includes bathroom references she probably couldn’t use on the radio. Love a good potty joke.
As someone who enjoys reading self-help books as much as novels, I can appreciate her one-year journey through the literature and her experiences meeting some of the gurus themselves–although I would have skipped the cruise with Richard Simmons.
Anyway, thought you might like a little entertainment of the non-4-minute-YouTube type for once.

i read some of the chapter and listened to the interview. I think that what she did was pretty cool she bettered herself, while having fun. the fact that she was totally sceptical of everything like this is even more conforting to me because i have a yearly resolusion and hardly stick to it because i myself is sceptical. i found it really shocking that she said she hasnt exercised in 20 years! i was like how could you live with out exercising even a little.. but then again im in like every sport you can think of so i guess im sort of obsessed with exercising. anyway, back to the artical, i think that her writing a book about it was really cool

I heard part of that radio interview–the book sounds great! I look forward to reading about it. It’s a fantastic premise.
