I never appreciated Paris
I’ve noticed in recent times that my husband might possibly have a thing for Paris Hilton. I know–let’s not go there.
But now I think I’ve been highly undervaluing the young woman. Take a look at her response to John McCain for using her picture (along with Britney Spears’s) in a recent ad claiming Barack Obama is just another celebrity:

Heh! I posted the same thing this morning.
Oh, yeah? Did my husband send you the link, too? He’s really going too far.
Okay, that’s kind of messing with my preconceived notions about Paris, gleaned largely from the headlines on the tabloids in the checkout line at Wegmans and the (terrible) remake of the film House of Wax.
It was on the ‘Most Emailed’ list box on the side of my sports page.
It could have been there because he was the one emailing it to everyone.
To respond seriously: I think Adam McKay, one of the people behind the website Funny Or Die, is the funny one; his idea, his script. Paris is a combo good sport/ good at marketing.
My not serious response: very funny, and esp. biting about today’s mix of marketing and politics. But again — not Paris’s doing.
(Or at least, not her doing according to five whole minutes of google research, LOL)
Yeah, Liz, I know she doesn’t get credit for the writing–but you have to admit, the delivery is PRIMO. Plus, gotta give her props for participating–very clever.
Adrienne, can’t say I’ve ever punished myself by watching that version of House of Wax. Poor you.
Patrick, now I know what he does at work all day!
I can’t believe I am going to say this but my respect for Paris Hilton has gone up a notch. She dealt with this situation with humor & she sounds smart. Wow!
The whole thing was scripted, according to HuffPo. Not only that, but that “energy platform” was basically John McCain’s verbatim. And offshore drilling increases will do NOTHING for the price of gas for at least ten years, and not nearly as much as keeping your tires inflated.
Let me be clear: I was under no illusion that Paris wrote her material, but I do give her credit for a funny delivery (better acting than I would have expected from her) and for participating. I think it’s a fun rejoinder to someone using her photo for his own political purposes.
And let me also be clear that I’m all for moving toward alternate fuel sources, and leaving the ocean and Alaska free from further abuse. We need our wild spaces now more than ever.
Readerdiane, that was my take on it, too–she actually sounds smart! Even if she’s just reading! A certain president doesn’t sound that smart even though he’s just reading . . .
This is great! Plus I loved her mom’s response to the whole thing.
Hey, Robin, is it just me or is the post about writing/amateurs/you finishing your draft of the play gone? Might be my laptop…?
Felicity – don’t tell anyone, but I broke the internet. I was hoping no one noticed.
Dammit, Patrick! Again??
Felicity, there were some upgrades to my site today and that post apparently got upgraded right out. The mysteries of science and technology . . .
Can you just write it again? It was good.
Thanks, Patrick, that’s nice of you to say. But now it’s even more impossible to duplicate, because I have no internet. I’m writing this through the miracle of my husband’s cell phone.
Like I said, the pleasures of science and technology, and of being at their mercy.
Thanks anyway.
I really liked that post, just to let you know.
Blessed is the phone which connects the Brande to the Internet.
I agree with Patrick. Glorified and sactified be the phone which connects the Brande to the Internet…because the world just doesn’t rock without Robin.
Patrick and Elizabeth, you crack me up.
Thank you, Felicity!
