Potential party dates (yes, for real)

WHAT: The Fantasy (No More) Potluck

WHERE: Chicago

WHEN: Let’s talk.

Once Nancy started talking about the-sooner-the-better, I was done for, being the immediate-gratification slave that I am.

So . . .

Let me throw out a few ideas, and see what you think. You can answer on the blog or send me a separate e-mail if you prefer. But I really want to hear from as many of you as possible, because this is the most headache-inducing part of it, the please-everyone-by-making-sure-they-can-come part. For instance, I already know Nancy will be busy one of the potential weekends, and since she’s the one who lit this fire, she obviously has to be there. But I’m still going to throw both weekends out there and see what’s up with the rest of you.

POTENTIAL DATES:

Saturday, September 29.

Saturday, October 6.

If that’s not going to work, we’ll have to move to Plans B & C, which involve meeting in Phoenix in December (a lovely time of year there, trust me) or back to the Chicago idea, but in March.

The Party Planning Hotline is now open. Speak.

  1. Can I FedEx a cardboard cut out of moi? (I can’t commit to any dates because my hubs travels and has requested all time off for the year already. Also, I think I would need to be drugged to get on a plane, but I’m willing to go that route if by chance I’m able to attend. ;) )

  2. Miri says:

I’ll be shipping my cardboard cutout with Heather’s and maybe sending along cash for a long-distance phone call, because barring something really crazy (like someone in my family selling a book) I won’t be able to come.

    With you in spirit.

  3. robin says:

Heather and Miri, we’d MUCH prefer the real yous (you’s?). Let’s wait and see.

  4. Deborah says:

Right now, I could do the 29th, but not the 6th.

  5. adrienne says:

I am free Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, although I’m not sure if I could get the money together to travel by then. I would try very hard. Darned money.

  6. robin says:

Thanks for letting me know, Deborah and Adrienne. And don’t worry, darned money will come. Because this is Worthy.

  7. Beth says:

I know I don’t comment here often, but I’d love to come. So I’m going to put my two cents in. The 29th works better for me…and it’s only 2 hours away! WOOHOO!

  8. robin says:

Beth, come on down! Thanks for giving me the date.

  9. Kelly says:

Either one works for me! I may even go sans children!!

  10. robin says:

Kelly, that brings up an interesting point that we haven’t discussed yet: should this be a grown up party? Because that might determine where we have it. Let me know what you’re all thinking.

  11. Sara says:

Either date is good for me, but I need to see on which weekend I can snag a FF miles free flight. I’ll get back to you.

  12. Lady T says:

I’m afraid that this fall won’t be good for me but in lieu of a cut-out,I could talk my sister into drawing a cartoon version of me to send along instead:)

  13. robin says:

Bummer, Lady T! I’m sorry to hear that.

Sara, thanks for the info. I’ll wait for the update.

  14. Kathryne says:

I don’t know what job I’m going to have this fall, so I have no idea what dates will or won’t work. But if it’s in Chicago there’s a good chance I’ll be able to get there. Also, I can’t promise anything but in Chicago I may have a lead on some space.

  15. robin says:

Kathryne, if you could do that, you might be all of our best friend.

  16. MotherReader says:

I definitely could NOT do Sept 29th. It’s a Girl Scout Camping trip. The next weekend should be fine.

  17. robin says:

    Grrrrr, Girl Scouts. Totally interfering.

  18. Jen Robinson says:

I’m definitely available on October 6th. Not sure about the 29th, but I could probably make it work, especially if we make a decision soon. And I looked at FF tickets to Chicago, and they looked good right now.

  19. Nancy says:

Oh, I’m so sad. I’m not available either of those dates!!!

Actually, I suppose October 6 is remotely possible, because I could fly from Portland Maine to Chicago that day, at the end of my vacation. Yeah, that’d work.

    October 6 is my vote.

  20. robin says:

Cool, Nancy. Mother Reader, the Girl Scouts are forgiven, bless their little hearts.

Jen, thanks. This just might work out!

  21. I can only attend virutally! I don’t live anywhere nearby.

  22. robin says:

    Bummer, Little Willow!

  23. Unless the PowerBall people finally get their act together, anything this year is out for me. I vote for next spring, in Chicago.

  24. jules says:

I’m with Adrienne and a few others: “Darned money.” I can try to make it, but right now we’re trying to figure out if we should splurge on a trip to the ocean, as we haven’t been in yeeeeeeears and our three-year-old is fascinated with the beach and plays “beach” all the time. I wanna see her face light up when she sees it, so we’re considering a late summer beach trip (using money that we should probably put in savings or put towards a student loan instead). If we do that, I doubt I can make a Fall trip, too, as much as I want to meet everyone. We have to seriously watch our budget, what with one of us deciding to stay home with the girls and not bring in our usual two incomes.

Having said that, though, Oct. 6 is probably out — too close to my youngest’s birthday.

  25. Oh, see when you said party dates, I thought you were trying to set up a matchmaking service for the event…

Not entirely sure what my work schedule will be, but with enough advance notice, I should be able to work things out — I’m trying to get a couple more people trained on my team, so I should have more backup by then. As for the personal calendar, I defer to MotherReader. She knows more about what’s on my schedule than I do — always.

  26. robin says:

I’m so sorry for all of you who can’t come. We will need those cardboard cutouts, if you don’t mind.

I’ll announce the official party date tomorrow!
