Report from the field
Just got in from our short backpacking trip. Massive head cold. Sore throat, possible fever, head full of more liquid than I knew the head could hold.
Spending this one hotel day catching up on over 200 e-mails, doing laundry, resupplying. Leaving in the morning for our longer backpacking excursion in the Wind River Mountain Range in Wyoming.
Because sickness is for babies! And because I deny this illness! My theory is that if I ignore it, eat bananas, help myself to another bowl of dry Cheerios from the hotel breakfast bar, and go out for a bean burro and lots of salsa tonight, I will be miraculously cured. Everyone knows that salsa has secret medicinal properties.
Go with it, friends. Send me your healing thoughts. Because more mountains must be hiked!
Thank you!
Oh, my, Robin. If you could work up some sneezing, it would probably frighten away any lurking bears.
Um, thanks?? In other helpful news, today my husband got from the Wyoming Forest Service a pamphlet about “issues” and “considerations” for women in bear country. If you know what I mean.
Sorry about the 200 emails. I thought you were ignoring me. You can ignore the last 20 or so, I think they were repeats.
Incidentally, H1N1 just went through my house. Hope you don’t have it.
Incidentally, I don’t know or want to know about any ‘issues’ or ‘considerations’.
Defying your sickness right along with you! Sickness be gone!!! Backpack away!
Thank you, Kelley! Not working so far, but maybe in the morning.
Patrick, sorry you guys had the H1N1. But really, do you have to do everything that’s fashionable?
Signing off, folks. Off to blow my nose some more, get some sleep, go hike it.
Incidentally, do you know what my favorite word is this week?
In order to the full curative properties of the salsa, you have to make sure it is so hot it makes you cry…
Really, though, both very spicy and very sour will help your sinuses, etc. Try some sour patch kids gumballs.
Also, try some Mucinex if you can get to a drug store–magic stuff, that.
incidentally, today is Friday.
