The pressure of the Friday list

Just out of curiosity: Am I the only person who gets to this point in the week and thinks, “Shoot! I haven’t done anything nice for myself yet! Better get right on it or I’ll have nothing to report tomorrow”?

It’s like the Tuesday Book Club–having this place to show up every week and check in really does keep me on task.

Now off to be nice.

Nah. It’s easy. I got a chair massage in the airport yesterday. I even told the masseuse that it was unlikely that she could apply too much pressure. She did enjoy that challenge I think…

  2. MotherReader Says:

Maybe a little bit of pressure, but since I’ll usually read instead of do housework, I can always put that in.

  3. robin Says:

    Patrick, that sounds WONDERFUL.

Mother Reader, good luck at the film competition tonight!!

  4. Deborah Says:

I know already that this week will be a bust in the nice department. I’ve been out of town working for 4 days and have returned to face less than 10 days to move out of my house and into the next. Nice is just out of the question this week.

  5. Christen Says:

I’ve had the craziest week ever. I feel like I deserve a treat. Hmmm… maybe some water ice would hit the spot??

P.S. I hear my mom has entered the chocolate drawing. She cracks me up!

  6. robin Says:

Yeah, Christen, and she said she doesn’t even like chocolate, she just wants to win because you and your dad both won.

You have a highly competitive family. I sort of like that.

  7. Patrick Says:

Am I still allowed to use that on Friday or is this a clever ploy to get everyone to use their Friday something nice on Thursday?

  8. Sara Says:

No, I completely forget all about it, and then on Friday, I just make something up. Who’s gonna know if I didn’t really get a white chocolate sugar scrub or rent a mountain cabin stocked with fine wine just to read in? Will anyone blink an eye if I say I treated myself to a small, casual date with Ralph Fiennes? Or had custom-made crocodile d’Orsays flown in from Italy?

I mean, come on, Robin doesn’t even require photographic evidence. Not that SHE gives us any either. (Yes, I’m still mad about the no prom picture.)

  9. robin Says:

Deborah, so sorry. This really is a time for sucking it up, not pampering, huh? Still, hope you find something nice in the midst of all that.

Patrick, yeah–I’m always trying to trick people. It’s my main reason for having the blog.

Sara, do NOT fib on the Friday list. Now I’m going to be looking for any references to Ralph (I know he pronounces it “Rafe,” but come on–if you want that to be your name, spell it that way) Fiennes. I prefer his brother Joseph, by the way.

  10. Deborah Says:

Well, if we’re gong to fib, then I have a date scheduled with Jude Law Friday night.

  11. Sara Says:

Yes, Joseph (pronounced Be-ah-yoo-tee-ful) is Fienne also.

I promise I won’t fib. Or make any more bad puns. I’m a little punchy from writing all morning. It makes me want to make things up all day.

  12. Beth Says:

I made myself two necklaces this week — before making the ones that will actually be gifts! And tomorrow I’m going on vacation with my family for 3 days — and guess what…I’m going to completely forget that the house needs vacuumed and the laundry needs done. Just relaxing! WOOHOO!

  13. Vivian Says:

Robin, You already came up with my nice item–asking for a day off on Sunday. Although, I to be honest…I didn’t ask for it off yet. I’m hoping mental telepathy goes a long way.

  14. annette Says:

see deborah, the power of the blog is already making you feel better (and causing you to be delusional.)

i did my nice to me by taking tomorrow off (that would be friday) in order to take my mom to breakfast and then shopping for mother’s day, so wonders of wonders, she will be forced to get something she really wants.

  15. Jen Robinson Says:

It definitely crosses my mind on a regular basis. Thanks for providing an excuse to keep doing nice things for ourselves.

  16. Nancy Says:

    Robin,

I’m happily surprised every week to find out I DID do nice things for myself. I don’t try, so I guess I’m just naturally self-indulgent!

  17. robin Says:

Nancy, I’m happy for you about that.

And thanks to all the rest of you for your two cents on this. The Friday list is our way of keeping on our own backs about getting off our own backs once in a while and making sure we get the sweet treatment we deserve. Yay to all.
