Fiction author Robin Brande talks about writing, reading, and other vital matters

Okay, then, here’s the deal:

A friend of mine–a friend of many of ours–is too young to have breast cancer but has it. Believe me, we’ve all done a lot of cussing about this. And although we all know money can’t cure everything, we also know that sometimes it comes in mighty handily to make life a little easier while you’re having to deal with some unexpected turmoil.

So, to raise money and ease the load, a lot of my friend’s friends are participating in a HUGE book event, which will include an on-line auction, so that even if you can’t attend the event on Saturday, April 4, you can still purchase amazingly cool items at the on-line auction store. And among all the autographed books and other cool items, you’ll notice you can also bid on having New York Times bestselling author Lisa McMann (WAKE and FADE) name a character after you in her next novel! How cool would that be? But check out the whole list of items, because many of them are so worth having. And you and I might be bidding against each other for them.

But there’s more. At the actual big party event, none other than Stephenie Meyer (TWILIGHT series, as if I have to tell you) will be there in person, signing books and giving a talk. [UPDATED: All of the tickets for the private reception with Stephenie have already sold out! But she'll still be at the event, and you'll have the chance to see and hear her!]

And it’s not just Stephenie. It’s also the ever-awesome Shannon Hale (BOOK OF A THOUSAND DAYS, AUSTENLAND (one of my favorite, favorite books ever)), Laini Taylor (FAERIES OF DREAMDARK series–love that!), and many other authors and illustrators. Just look at the list of authors and illustrators and you’ll be overwhelmed.

Who won’t be there? Um, me. Because I’ll be in Rochester, NY that night for the Teen Book Festival. But as I told the organizers, if you have to choose between working around my schedule and working around Stephenie Meyer’s and Shannon Hale’s and everyone else’s, um . . . I think we know the answer here. (Not really sure they even considered that anyway, but I can pretend.)

So. If you want to go to the event on April 4 and see Stephenie, Shannon, Laini and all the rest, then here’s where you can purchase tickets. Or you can go to the auction link and participate off-site there. Or, if you just want to be generous and help out someone you may or may not know who is going through an unreasonably tough time because of Awful Random Cancer, you can donate here.
