Would you rather eat or exercise?
Riddle me this, Batpeople:
If these were the only two choices, would you rather exercise like crazy and eat whatever you want, or eat less than you want and exercise little?
And why?

I’m moderate on both. I’m currently on the bowflex strategy, 20 minutes per day – 3 times per week. I’m watching my food intake, too. But I splurge often. I just make sure it isn’t too many days in a row that I splurge.
Are we still not procrastinating together?
I enjoy exercise when I am able to do it (as often as possible), and I enjoy sweets even more. I think I would have to choose the first option. Each day, I already have a few pieces of dark chocolate. I’d be content with even more, plus an ice cream or piece of cake or cookie thrown in there from time to time. I really do believe that, in the next life (in whatever form that takes), I’ll be able to eat sweets with no ill effects! (: Now, this is all assuming that the detriment of the sweets is completely canceled out by the exercise. In all honesty, Patrick has the best approach. (Doesn’t he always?) I hope you’ll give us your answer too.
Patrick, moderation was not one of the choices. You should know that with me. But I’m impressed with the Bowflex strategy. Are you going to look like that guy in the commercial?
Kelley, I’m so like you on both exercise (love it) and sweets (love them more). And yes, for the purposes of this question, we are assuming that sweets are canceled out by exercise. And if that’s not true, don’t tell me right now.
Robin – You should know that when given the choice of A or B, I will always choose C.
I do spend most of my days shirtless and spritzed with oil.
I would choose the first one! I am all about eating but I also love to exercise. I just wish that I could do more of the exercising in my daily life. Sometimes things get crazy and I concentrate on the eating part and not the exercising part (which is still a lot of fun)
P, somehow I knew that. About the second part, that is. And I guess about the first.
Shai, anyone who says, “I am all about eating” is my friend. But I’m also with you on the love to exercise part. I didn’t used to, but now I really, really love it.
But I definitely get the not-loving it attitude, so it that’s some of the rest of you, let’s hear it. No judgment here.
Out of curiosity, what kind of exercise do you do? (Any of you?)
I think Patrick is a gladiator.
As for me, running, weight lifting, yoga.
How about you, Kelley? And the rest of you?
i would eat little and exercise little
reason 1:
i dont eat much as it is, and i dont exercise much (i have a fast metabolism)
reason 2:
I hate exercise unless its just walking, or maybe doing karate (i wouldnt know about the karate cuz i havent had the change to try it yet)
The kind of exercise i do is…
if i get stuck in a P.E class (this semester is Aerobics)
walking from school sometimes
just going for walks
and if i do WiiFit or not
Robin, why were you curious about this?
Carli, why am I curious about this? Because I’m nosy, for one thing, and because if I’m wondering something, I’m just going to ask and see what people want to tell me. It’s how I am!
Would my life magically make time for all that exercise? Because I enjoy working out–it’s just finding time to do it that I sometimes have trouble with. In that case, I’d eat a lot, work out a lot.
(Although I already work out, usually for 30 minutes a day and often with an extra 1-2 mile walk thrown in, and I can’t even come close to eating all I want. So maybe it just wouldn’t be practical.)
Katie, your exercise schedule looks pretty darn good to me. And remember, this is kind of my fantasy question, which is why it’s either/or. I don’t think we actually could eat everything we want even if we worked out all the time. I just like wondering about people’s preferences.
Why? See answer above re nosy.
I love it when you ask questions that provoke banter. My exercise schedule consists of (1) a 30-minute core-strengthening workout on the exercise ball three times a week; (2) a brisk 25-minute walk with hills most days; (3) picking up, carrying, running after, climbing with, and dancing with my little girls every day.
Kelley, that’s some burly exercise! Especially the exercise ball–not an easy thing at all. I’m impressed you make this much time for something so nice for yourself. Bravo! (And love the sweet image of you dancing with your little girls every day!)
I exercise very little, but I also eat once a week usually, so it all balances out. I like doing mixed martial arts and self-defense with my best friend.
Elizabeth, you only eat once a week? What discipline!
Elizabeth, you only eat once a week? What discipline! Hear that, Patrick? She also does martial arts. She can break you.
I would defeat her with my CHARM.
Watch me kibby! It’s a charming form of exercise!
P, aren’t you the inventor of Kibby Kibby Revolution?
Considering my Wii Fit announced to me that I was out-of-shape, I must take up the gauntlet and exercise. Aaaaargh!
Stupid blabbermouth Wii.
Yes…kibbying is CHARMING exercise. Have you ever seen a fat chocolate-zucchini harvester? But I could still break Patrick.
Have I ever seen a fat chocolate-zucchini harvester?
How come I think that is one of those loaded questions that will get me broken?
Of course you don’t look fat with that chocolate-zucchini! Duh!!!
Patrick, you hesitated just a hair too long. I’m afraid I’ll have to break you now.
I’m not flinching before my beating, it’s a form of kibbying.
I too would have to pick C–not A or B. I tend to eat what I want and exercise little.
Of course the secret here is to ‘want’ just the good foods, and not a lot of ‘junk’ or chocolate, or too many pastas or rich sauces or sweets, etc. That is what works for me.
I would eat little and exercise little, as long as I weren’t really hungry when I wasn’t eating and I was able to stay healthy. The frustrating part in real life is exercising and being healthy with the exercise and food, but taking 5 weeks to lose one pound.
Yeah, S&S, I know that frustration well. It seems so easy to put on, so laborious to take off. But I agree that I hate being hungry–hate it, hate it, hate it.
Patrick and Elizabeth, I would pay to hear you bicker and taunt. Love it so.
Judy, I admire your “wants.” No cookies, chocolate, etc.? Bravo you!
Gosh, I’m still waiting for choice “C” (Eat whatever and not exercise…)I’m not lazy but it’d be nice to not HAVE to choose one over the other. I’d have to agree with Patrick and say moderation is the key.
