Enchanted

Saw Enchanted today. AHHHHHH. SUCH a girl film. Was a little confused about the two dudes who came in right before the previews–felt certain they took a wrong turn and meant to see Fred Claus instead, but so what, it was good fun for all.

Loved McDreamy in that, but just like everyone has been saying, Amy Adams totally makes that film. I love that she totally threw herself into that part, holding back nothing. Same with dreamy James Marsden, who could have been embarrassed and wasn’t in the least. Thank goodness. His part as Prince Edward depends on him taking it all the way, just like he did.

Excellent movie-going weekend. Plus, last night rented The Bourne Ultimatum, and if that’s not a wild ride I don’t know what is. I took the time to watch all the extras, like how they filmed the car chases and the incredible rooftop chase that just seemed to go on and on. Matt Damon is a wonder. Smart guy, great actor, and a real physical daredevil. That Bourne franchise is one of the most fun out there.

Any holiday movies you want to report on?

I saw Alvin and The Chipmunks.

Good family movie for younger kids.

And when Alvin said, “Yippeekiyay Mamasita”, my oldest said loud enough for others to hear,

“Is that the bad word you won’t let me say from Die Hard?”

  2. Bill Says:

All right, so maybe it is a girl movie, but given the great buzz and the fact that we’ve all seen the Disney movies from which this takes inspiration, I still want to see it.

Of course, I’ll counter this by pointing out that I watched my all-time favorite Christmas movie last night — the aforementioned Die Hard.

(Pam and I have often argued over whether this is in fact a Christmas movie, but I’m not giving any ground there. And I had the foresight to brainwash… I mean train the kids to say, “Die Hard is a Christmas movie.” Who knows, they may change their minds once they actually see it, but for now, they’re on my side.)

  3. Patrick Says:

Patrick Dempsey - another 5′10.5″ midget.
    Matt Damon - barely 5′10″

who knew that hollywood was made up of midgets?

What? No? I don’t have any height issues.

I FINALLY saw Pirates of the Caribbean-At World’s End. It was long, but I am a die hard Pirates and Johnny Depp fan! I am probably one of few who thought it was a decent movie, but come on, hot men romping around on a pirate ship being all manly, is just what this girl ordered up!

  5. Patrick Says:

    Depp - 5′9″

  6. Kelley Says:

Patrick, I think you’re on to something here. Hot guys = average height. I.e., not some super-tall person we gals couldn’t even look in the eye.

I just watched the DVD release of Order of the Phoenix and loved it again. I hear there’s a bit of Half-blood Prince footage on it somewhere, but I haven’t had a chance to look. I’m planning to see Sweeney Todd this Friday. I’m guessing it’s even more of a Christmas movie than Die Hard. Like Shai, though, I’m a Depp fan. I’ll watch him in most films because I think he’s THAT interesting. I enjoyed all three Pirates films, but I still think the first was the best.

I’m glad you enjoyed Enchanted, Robin! I would love to see it once more over the holidays–maybe take a girlfriend or two who have yet to see it. And Bill, I think you’ll like it! There’s plenty of humor for guys to enjoy, and a little romance never hurt anyone anyway. And hey, we get Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden, and you get Amy Adams. She’s wonderfully over the top and cute as a button.

I was too busy making graham-cracker houses and overeating on gumdrops to see any good flicks this weekend, but now I’m fully inspired. And I think one of the Bournes just arrived in that handy-dandy lil’ red envelope so tonight might be the night.

  8. Patrick Says:

    Space Lord - 5′10″

  9. Shai Says:

Depp 5′9, but what a hunk!

I saw August Rush with my daughter since I knew I couldn’t every convince hubby to go-no blood, guts or car chases. I liked the movie because it is HEA.

I finished the Tinker/Wolf series by Wen Spencer.I loved it. I have tried reading a couple of her other books and could not get in to them. If you like fantasy with a dash of Sci-Fi and a strong female, you will enjoy these 2 books. I have Endless Blue coming this week. It will be interesting to see if I like this one as well as the other 2.The reviews I have seen are mixed.

Bill, you just stick your chest right out and walk in there like a man. Nothing to be ashamed of. But, um, you might want to take Pam as your date. And you bet Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Der!

Heather, I love the continuing adventures of Bad Mommy. Your kids are apparently unbribable.

Patrick, how do you have all this information? Are you keeping a database?

Shai, that means I’m the last person who still hasn’t seen it? Dang.

Kelley, I just watched Order of the Phoenix a few nights ago. Loved it! Again! I can see all those movies over and over, just like I can reread the books a hundred times. So satisfying. Next I need to rent Goblet of Fire so I can remind myself how appropriate Cedric Diggory will be as Edward Cullen in Twilight movie.

Liz, what fun! Are you ever in the Christmas mood (at least the cooking part). Enjoy your dose of Matt Damon tonight. Be sure to watch the extras–all the details on how they choreograph the fight scenes and chases are so fascinating.

Readerdiane, I can’t bring myself to see August Rush because Robin Williams looks so damn creepy in the previews. What say you?

  12. Shai Says:

Robin, I will watch it with you! I can sit through three hours of swashbuckling pirates any day of the week!

  13. Patrick Says:

I have an algorithm programmed on my media console which measures relative height as compared to the other actors and angles and distance of cameras.

It works because of the Kevin Bacon principal.

  14. Katie Sis Says:

I love At World’s End, absolutely loved it! Enchanted spoke to my inner romantic. (Mostly I keep it hidden.) I’m waiting for Christmas to watch OOTP again, but couldn’t hold out on Pirates.

And I’m 5′ tall. Just about everybody is a giant to me.

  15. Kelley Says:

Meant to say I thoroughly enjoyed all three Bourne movies. Those were great flicks to see with the hubby. Matt is the STUFF in those films.

And Katie Sis, seeing as Mama bought my copy of OOTP when we shopped together during their trip here over the weekend, I convinced her to save the trouble of wrapping it for Christmas and just leave it with me.

I’m shutting up now. Gotta work.

  16. robin Says:

    Shai, deal.

Patrick, you are such a Brain. We’re lucky to have you on our side.

Katie Sis, you know Patrick is keeping a separate chart of all our heights. Now you’ve played right into his hands.

Kelley, yeah to Matt being the stuff. Don’t you agree that part of his appeal is that he’s actually so smart in real life? Love a man who can write brilliant screenplays AND fight scary assassins.

And I like your style with the Christmas present. Why wrap Order of the Phoenix when it deserves to be watched right away? Your mom is nice to get that for both of you.

  17. Shai Says:

Name the time and place..I have the movie.
