Waitress is the best
Just got back from seeing Waitress, starring Keri Russell, and I think it might be my favorite movie of the year so far. Funny, quirky, heart-tugging, and with such sumptuous pies it makes you want to rush home and whip up a dozen of them yourself–especially since Keri makes it look so easy, like you never need a recipe or have to run out to the store.
I love this movie the way I did Little Miss Sunshine, even though they have very little in common except coming out of the Sundance Film Festival. But they both managed to make me laugh a lot and cry just enough, and I’ll take that from a movie any day.
The movie is a perfect effort from screenwriter, director, and actress Adrienne Shelly, who, I’m very sorry to say, was killed shortly before this film was accepted at Sundance last November. So seeing her on the screen in her suporting role as one of the waitresses is especially poignant. But don’t be sad while you watch it. Just appreciate the talent that went into making it, and be grateful Adrienne left us such a gift.
Hope y’all enjoy it.

I also saw this movie and enjoyed the delicious looking pies. I loved the visual connections of watching a pie put together while also hearing the main character’s thoughts. She names the pies according to what is going on in her life and does it with great style. She takes out all her life’s frustrations while rolling out the pie dough. I will see it again and focus on something else besides my mouth drooling to eat her desserts. It is a must see movie.
