Let’s fatten our friends

Over these upcoming weeks of pre-Christmas shopping (I know, settle down, just deal with it), I’m going to be soliciting your ideas for mail-order gifts so I never have to leave my house except to get groceries and walk the dog. It will be like Oprah’s Favorite Things show, but I hate to break it to you, you won’t find a surprise gift from me under your seat. The monthly chocolate contest is as good as it gets.

So let’s start with the easiest category: Food to Fatten our Friends.

My own leading contender is the Garrett’s Popcorn my friend Carolyn sent me for my birthday a few weeks ago–the popcorn that’s more addictive than coffee or Lost or perhaps even crack, if that’s your thing. I’ve linked you right to the killer combination: half cheese, half caramel. You take a handful from one side, a handful of the other, build your own bowl of it, rinse, repeat, have about eighty more helpings. In a row.

Garrett’s Popcorn also happens to be one of Oprah’s Favorite Things, so we’re all in good company here. And when you order big buckets for your friends, do yourself a favor and DO NOT order one for yourself. It’s like falling in love with a movie star who’s only in town for a few weeks. He’s no good, sistah. Run away. If you start it up, you’ll always regret you couldn’t have more.

Oh, but I guess in this case you could just order another tin any time you had a hankering, so never mind–go nuts. You will either love me or hate me for getting you hooked.

Okay, your turn. What else shall we send our loved ones near and far to make sure all their pants are too tight?

the pears from harry and david are orgasmic–i love them so, i think i’ll send them to myself (along with their blue cheese, superb!). last x-mas i gave my son-in-law wanna be the bar-b-que assortment from omaha steaks, put it in a big coleman ice chest with beer, an apron, cooking utensils and a set of steak knives–huge success.

I too crave the pears from Harry and David’s. If you like Blueberries, there is a company in Maine that has everything you could possibly imagine made with blueberries-I received a gift basket from them and it was fantastic. If any body wants to know, I’ll try and find the catalog.

Unique Coffee Roasters is a fave of mine. Costa Rican Royal Tarrazu or Tanzanian Peaberry for everyday coffee, the Italian (colosseum) roast for espresso.
