Help literacy and have some free coffee on me
Hey, y’all, I’m part of an auction going on to benefit the great non-profit group Kids Need to Read, the charity project founded by author PJ Haarsma (The Softwire series) and actor Nathan Fillion (a.k.a. Hot Nathan Fillion, of Waitress, Firefly, Serenity, and now Desperate Housewives). Money raised through these auctions is used to purchase books for schools and libraries in need.
If you’re interested, go check out all the goodies they’re including in the auction for my book. That’s right–in addition to the book, I’m throwing in an autographed manuscript page, a limited-issue wall cling, AND a Starbucks gift card. Talk about your swag.
Bid if you want to!

Sure, get on the Nathan Fillion bandwagon now. Didn’t you watch him and Ryan Reynolds on ‘two guys and a girl…’
Seriously, a MS page? Don’t you write on a computer? Are you auctioning 1’s and 0’s?

First I dictate my novels into my answering machine while I’m out walking the dog, then I come home and transcribe them by hand onto legal pads, then I type them on my old college Selectric, then I fax those sheets to myself, then I scan them into my computer, then I start from scratch in Word with nothing but the old manuscript a vague memory in my head.
Sure, it slows me down, but if I can only write eight novels in a year instead of ten, I feel the craftsmanship is worth it.
Why, how do you do it?

WOW! Exercising and writing at the same time! How wonderful! ;-D I’d try that, but I don’t have a dog.
I already HAVE a autographed copy of your book, but I’ll check and see if there is anything else there I might want…

I plug a USB drive into my plasma brain coil. Unfortunately, I spend an inordinate amount of time converting that into a Word document.

Craftsmanship. Such a dying art. Good thing you’re upholding it for all the rest of us who only thump our computers and tear our hair out.

LITERACY ROCKS!

Don’t forget Nathan Fillion as one of Season 7’s baddies in “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” and Vigilante in “Justice League Unlimited” (of which his character interpretation is a blatant homage to Captain Tightpants).

Mmmm…Nathan Fillion…
Seriously, though, what a great cause. Wish I had more money, too.
