I feel like Kramer

I’m out. (Slaps money on the counter.)

That’s right, didn’t last a day. And the challenge was for only two days.

But like I said in reference to something else last week, I’m off duty this summer. The policewoman inside my head is on vacation.

And I cannot believe the stress I was starting to put myself under for this reading challenge. I love reading, love to have a reason to plow through my TBR pile, but this weekend I want to play. Go to yoga. Go for a hike. Sit and stare at a wall.

Hope I didn’t disappoint anyone, but I have to be honest. Just don’t feel like kicking my own ass this weekend.

So I’m out, but I will continue to cheer on the rest of you. And I will be furnishing one of the prizes, so go on and read, read, read!!

Can’t speak for MotherReader, but I do think she’ll forgive you. If it’s not fun, it’s not worth doing.

But for the record, we won’t officially count you out until your 48 hours are up. Ya never know — you may find yourself in the mood to fit one more book in there…

Bill, you are my best friend right now. (Psst! He’s MotherReader’s husband! He has the power to relieve me of my obligation, don’t you think?)

As far as justifications go, I’d say that’s a winner. ;)

  4. Miri Says:

No point in doing something like this if it’s not worth doing to you, I think. This weekend was all about giving yourself a break and making something you enjoy a priority. If you happen to be giving yourself a break from the challenge, well, I’d say that counts.

I do hope you still intend to read Inkheart in the near future and report on your opinion of it, though. (Don’t worry - New Moon’s next on my own list!)

  5. eisha Says:

Bless you for that particular Seinfeld reference.

  6. robin Says:

Thanks, Eisha. I was kind of worried no one got that.

Miri, not to worry–the book I’m reading right now is Inkheart!
And I love it! Thank you again for pinching me until I bought it.

    BJ, thanks.

  7. Nancy Says:

I love love love that Seinfeld reference!

And I hope you don’t mind terribly, but I’ve tagged you with a meme.

    http://journey-woman.blogspot.com/2007/06/personal-and-professional-goals-meme.html

I did it because it seems particularly relevant to your last two posts, and your view of your summer. I’m hoping to hear all your “good for you” goals as opposed to the Type A goals that dominated my post.

  8. MotherReader Says:

    LOL at the Seinfeld reference.

No worries, Robin. It’s all for fun and if it’s not fun, you don’t need to play. (Though to be totally honest, the fun is only in the first fourteen hours. After that it becomes much more like work.)

But if it is needed, I absolve you.

  9. robin Says:

Mother Reader, thank you for your beneficence.

Nancy, that’s a fun meme! I’m on it. Let me go hiking tomorrow and I’ll post about it Monday.

  10. Elaine Magliaro Says:

    Robin,

I can’t actually say I’m out because I was never “in.” I think I’ve seen every Seinfeld episode at least five times.

Anne at Book Buds tagged me with the summer goals meme the other day–so I decided to work on one of my goals this weekend even though it’s not officially summer. I gave myself my own personal challenge of writing and polishing six animal mask poems for a collection I started working on about a month ago. I’m halfway to my goal–sure hope I make it all the way there.

  11. robin Says:

Elaine, how cool! I don’t write poetry myself, and so I’m always interested in hearing about it from people who do. Good luck, and I’m looking forward to reading them!

  12. Lady T Says:

Well, atleast you gave it a shot there,Robin. I wasn’t feeling up to it myself but have made alot of headway in Maia,so small victory for me:)

  13. robin Says:

Yeah, Lady T, I feel the same way about Inkheart, which I did make a lot of progress with thanks to the challenge. I know you love that book, too, so you know it’s worth it!
