Special book report: Miss Spitfire
I decided not to wait until next Tuesday to report on this book. Because there I was, forlorn because my Harry Potter still hadn’t shown up in the mail, and I had all these errands to run and some waiting rooms to sit in, and that just calls for a book.
So I picked out Sarah Miller’s Miss Spitfire, the story of Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller’s first few months together, and it’s a mark of how wonderful the book is that even though my Harry did finally arrive later that day, I continued reading Miss Spitfire through all the way to the end because I was so absorbed.
I can’t believe this is Sarah Miller’s first novel. SO well-written, so compelling–I mean, you think you already know this story, right? We’ve all seen The Miracle Worker. But to read a novel told from Annie’s point of view–it’s just so moving, and so illuminating, and gush, gush, gush, I just loved it.
I know all of our TBR piles are completely ridiculous by this point in the year, but you have to make room for this book. I feel as strongly about it as I did about Austenland, even though the two couldn’t be more different.
But now I’m all Harry’s . . .

Glad to hear that your Harry Potter has arrived and that you discovered a great book while you waited:)
I second the cheers and praise for MISS SPITFIRE.
