Writing, reading, and other vital matters

Tuesday Book Club

Feast or famine. Last week three books, this week nothing. I’m reading three books at the same time again. Not sure about that strategy. It just happens.

So fill up this space with your own book reports. What did you guys read this week?

I read Sophia Nash’s newest historical: A DANGEROUS BEAUTY.

    Really fun!

  2. Lizzie says:

Still working on re-reading the Harry Potters.

It’s been interesting trying to share 2 1/2 sets of HP books between four people, all of whom read at roughly the same pace. It’s lucky we have three copies of 5, but things could turn ugly next week when there’s only two 6s to go around…

  3. PJ Hoover says:

“So Yesterday” by Scott Westerfeld. I listened to the audiobook version and couldn’t put it down.
I’m still drudging through “A Short History of Nearly Everything” which is great, but not so short.

  4. I’m reading Midnight Rain by Holly Lisle, but I have not finished it yet. I hope to report a start or finish for Under The Rose next Tuesday. :)

    It’s a crazy, busy week.

  5. Lady T says:

Well,I finished The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes,am close to completion on Keeping The House(which I hope lots of folks read when it officially comes out in July)and have surrendered to Pottermania by rereading Order of The Phoenix.

I plan to also read Half Blood Prince(I indulged myself by getting a British copy when it first came out)before Book 7. It’s too soon to the release date to go for a complete rereading of the series at this point. Oh,and I just recieved a great book in the mail,Will The Vampire People Please Leave The Lobby?,all about online fans of BTVS. I’ll be reviewing it in the future for my blog. Being a Vampire Person myself, this book should be a blast!

  6. Christen says:

I read some fun ones this week!

First I finished The Wide Window on audio (not as good as when Tim Curry was narrating, but oh well!).

Then I read Carpe Demon: Adventures of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom by Julie Kenner! What a fun book! One of the reviewers said it was like if Buffy grew up, got married, and had kids!

After that I read a fun little romance called “Strip Search” by Shelley Bradley. Yum!

And speaking of HP… did you hear that the last 20 minutes is going to be in 3D at IMAX theaters?!? YAY!!!

  7. Christen says:

Lady T, may I recommend HP on audio? Jim Dale is AWESOME and the books just fly! I kicked through the whole series super fast that way!

  8. Judy says:

I’m reading Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie…I saw it compared to Rules at a couple of sites, so thought I’d check it out.

  9. robin says:

Great reading, everyone! Glad to see you’re all putting your summers to such good use. I’ll try to catch up with you. You all inspire me!

  10. Molly says:

I read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (totally made up for the lackluster Twisted, and then some) and I’ll probably finish What Happened to Cass McBride by Gail Giles tonight. Nothing like being around librarians and writers to get you excited about reading.

  11. robin says:

I loved Speak. I saw the movie first (fantastic), then bought the book. Superb.

  12. Town House by Tish Cohen, and listening to Atlas Shrugged while I sew. Next up, who knows…? I’ve been entering my books into LibraryThing and there are soooooo many unread books on my shelves.

  13. jules says:

I absolutely devoured an advance proof called Before I Die, which is utterly brilliant. I’ll post about it soon, I hope. The editor, David Fickling (who has quite *the* track record), decided to publish it zippy quick (compared to the timeline most books are published on today), ’cause he was so stirred by it.

And, uh, otherwise reading 2,000 books at once, as usual.

  14. Lady T says:

Thanks for the recommendation,Christen and in return,I recommend to you the follow-up to Carpe Demon,California Demon. It’s just as fun and I sincerely hope that Kenner’s working on a third one.

Jules,I have an ARC of Before I Die,too but haven’t started it just yet-I’ll be looking for your review:)

  15. jules says:

Lady T, you may not be able to put it down once you start it.

  16. robin says:

Lady T and Jules, I’ve heard all sorts of good things about Before I Die. Can’t wait to read it!

  17. Patrick says:

    Finsished The Subtle Knife.

  18. robin says:

Patrick, wasn’t that just THE BEST?! One of my favorite books ever.

  19. Patrick says:

I’m enjoying the series and must see how it ends, I’ll say that.
