Tuesday Book Club
In the middle of a book, can’t report it yet.
How’s it going on your end-of-year reading push?

I finished Astrid and Veronika by Linda Olsson. The writing atyle was spare and yet lyrical. A short book, quick read and lingers with you. It is funny, the first three books for this year’s book club have all had the theme of secrets. It is not like we intentionally said, “let’s have our them be secrets”. So now as I get ready to re-read Laini Taylor’s book, I will be thinking what secrets are there? Have a great week. Happy turkey day.

Most recently, I read my own book, in manuscript form, before once again shipping it off to my editor. I liked it!

I just finished The Godmother by Carrie Adams.

Um, I’m reading the same things as last week, but I wanted to come say hi and see what you’re reading (and others, too). But you’re being all vague on our asses, Robin.
Do you mean you’re in the middle of reading one or writing one?
Or you don’t have to answer. Just keep reading (or writing)!
I’m not doing the end-of-the-year thing. Sorry. Didn’t get organized in time. Can’t report in there.
Happy Thanksgiving to all…

Two amazing books this week: The Arrival by Shaun Tan, and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie, which I blogged about, briefly. That last one was on my end-of-year list, so one down, three to go. I should get some good reading in over Thanksgiving.
Good work on keeping this post short, Robin. We all KNOW you’re supposed to be writing.

I’m really behind on my End of the Year reading,so I’ll be taking a blog holiday on Thanksgiving and the day after to catch up on some of it. I am close to finishing Songs Without Words by Ann Packer and hope to dive more into Savages by Shirley Conran(total brain candy).
The next novel I’m planning to read is Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips and I may be holding another contest for it(details are still in the works).

I’m writing, not reading.Progress on revisions is slow, but steady.

I finished Spanking Shakespeare - another great rec Robin! - but haven’t had a chance to write about it yet. Also nearly finished Jordan Sonnenblick’s Notes from the Midnight Driver, which is making me cry even more than Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie, so started Wicked Lovely. The idea was not to be too weepy JUST before turning out the light for sleep, but Wicked Lovely is really gripping, so my cunning plan had a bit of a flaw… It seems to me to be what almost everyone else found in Twilight and Holly Black, but working for me. The Summer King (of Faery) reading ‘La Belle Dame Sans Merci’ and ‘Goblin Fruit’? Yow.

Can I just say I love going to the bookstore now and seeing all these books you folks have recommended? It’s like running into a bunch of friends. Katie Sis lent me A Great and Terrible Beauty, and I’m just getting started on it so no word yet, other than…intriguing!!! Oh, and just reading Libba’s bio on the back cover made me like her immediately.

I finished Peter and the Starcatchers today. It was good, but I wouldn’t say it’s a Must Read option.

would you pleeeze read “three cups of tea”–like everybody, pleeze.
just finished an old classic historic account of the italian medidci dynasty,”the house of medici, its rise and fall.” my interest was piqued by my recent incredibly fabulous trip to italy. unfortunately this book is of an era when there is absolutely no mention of women or their role in the family fortunes except in the most dimissive way and despite the author’s reluctant acknowledgement that many of the most important issues were shaped by them. i just love it when the reference “to everyone” is by definition limited to 50% per cent of the population (or in the 15th century to about 1% of the population). so i’m on the prowl for a more comprehensive non-fiction account of this fascinating time, if anyone has a suggestion. ciao

Annette, I’m actually ordering Three Cups of Tea this week. I just read a review of it in one of my favorite magazines, and then you’ve been raving about it, so I could no longer resist. Thanks for keeping on us all about it.
Dylan, sorry you’re not loving everything you’ve been reading lately, but every book you read does help you become a better writer–either because you learn what to do more of, or what never to do. And it’s cool to reach your 50-book goal! Keep going!
Katie Sis, thanks for the info on that.
Kelley, I feel the same way about seeing books that people on here have read! I’m much more likely to buy something I see in the bookstore if someone here has talked about it. See Three Cups of Tea above, for example.
Lady S, I’m so glad you liked Spanking Shakespeare! That book deserves a huge readership–so dang funny all the way through.
Judy, I feel your pain/slowness on the revisions. Believe me.
Lady T, don’t you love taking a true vacation over Thanksgiving to do just what you’re going to be doing–reading day and night? Ahh, such luxury.
Sara, yes, I have been writing, which is why my comments are a few days late. But it’s fun to be immersed in my own book again–I forgot what that’s like. I need to read the Sherman Alexie book! I loved what you said about it on your blog. Add it to my list!
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Jules! (And to everyone, as a matter of fact.) To answer your question, I’ve been reading and writing, and still in the middle of someone else’s book and my own. But it’s a good thing to be so involved in words right now. Hope you’re enjoying your holiday!
Katie A., YAY! Your book! And you still like it!! That’s always a big relief, huh? Can’t wait to read it!!
Jone, enjoy re-reading Faeries of Dreamdark! So much fun, that book. But full of secrets? Yeah, I can think of a few.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!

Yeah that’s true! Thanks Robin! Your right!
As per usual
I will!
