Tuesday Book Club
First it was Wuthering Heights. Then Pride and Prejudice. Now this week it’s Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer.
I am in such a girl mood.
It’s hard to look at life the same way when you’ve been steeping yourself in romance the way I have. Every man looks like either a clod or a hero–I’ll leave you to decide which.
Last night I watched Bridget Jones’s Diary. Next I may go back to the BBC version (that would be the Colin Firth version) of Pride and Prejudice. And then I think I’ll need to go camping or join the military or something, just to get all dirty and sweaty. Oh, but maybe I’ll go see Enchanted first.
So that’s my story. How about you guys?

I’m on a transgenic phase.
James Patterson’s Maximum Ride - School’s Out Forever
Michael Crichton’s Next
Technically I haven’t finished either… Left Maximum Ride at the house, picked up Next at the airport read it the entire flight. Thick book…
and I listened to JoJo. Don’t let her lie to you. She is that kind of girl…

True Believer by Virginia Euwer Wolff [anyone know anything about the third book in the trilogy?] and this really bizarre memoir called Fat Girl by Judith Moore, which is like, everything people think memoir is, but everything it totally shouldn’t be.
I’m hoping I can hit 40 for the year. 50 in 2008! Only a couple weeks to go!

I finally finished Wuthering Heights!!! I am so relieved to be done with it.
I am now about halfway through Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and I am enjoying that oh so much more than WH!!

Hey,Robin, remember that mini list of books to finish up for the year? Well,I have to say “I’m out!” on that one-just not in the mood for Oliver Twist or a Philippa Gregory title right now. I’ll still keep on going with Savages, however.
I have too many things to finish up from this year and books I need to start on for 2008,like The Pulpwood Queens’ Tiara Wearing,Book Sharing Guide to Life(which I received in the mail yesterday and am on page 67 at the moment). Also rereading Emma, due to getting an early Christmas gift from a good friend of a Jane Austen door hanger that says “Shh,Reading”. Very nice:)

I recently finished Faeries of Dreamdark: Blackbringer by Laini Taylor, and although I initially had my doubts about a book about faeries, it turned out to be one of my favorite books of the year. It is excellent. Now I’m reading The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd. The narrator has a “syndrome” that is apparently Asperger’s, which makes for an interesting perspective on solving mysteries.

I’m still reading A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. As usual, I’m having to sip my books 20 minutes at a time right before bed, but I have to admit, sometimes it’s a great way to digest a book. I’m loving Gemma’s first-person, present tense point of view, especially as the book is set in 1800s Britain. It is much more frightening than I imagined it would be, but all the classic (and still current) girl school rivalries are there.
I’m looking forward to some book gift cards for Christmas so I can buy loads more to sip! (:

Still reading the same two books. Not finished with either of them yet.

I’m reading A Swift Pure Cry by the late Siobhan Dowd. Very good thus far.

I read Spanking Shakespeare—as funny as you said, Robin—and I have one short story left in White Time. I’m enjoying the collection, but I can’t read them one after the other—there’s just too much to think about after each one.

The Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming: A Christmas Story by Lemony Snicket
I am in the holiday spirit!
I am on my way to starting Spanking Shakepeare and since I will be on a plane for five hours, I can get some reading done!
WHOO HOO!

P.S. Go see Enchanted before you cure your “girly-ness”! It’s wonderful. At least I thought so. And you let us know what you think.

Enchanted was adorable. Go see it.
Let’s see, this week I finally got around to The Plain Janes. Decent story, but the one subplot I was really interested in was never resolved, and dialing up the art quality could have improved the whole thing tremendously.
(Then again, after staring at Hiromu Arakawa’s work for so long, I’m definitely spoiled for art quality. Or maybe it’s the difference between American and Japanese styles that’s throwing me. Still, on a purely technical level, The Plain Janes could have been much better.)

Dylan, I hadn’t heard that! That’s FANTASTIC news! That guy is gorgeous!!! Thanks for telling me/us!
Lady T, I hereby release you, me, and everyone else from any goals we made about what we’re reading now or ever. I, too, got distracted by other books. Who cares? We get to read whatever we want now and forever. It’s great!
Miri and Kelley, I just made my plans to go out with mother, sisters-in-law, and niece to see Enchanted this weekend. Total girl date! Yay!
Patrick, JoJo is a good girl. Do not malign her. And I’m glad you’re reading transgenic. Way to bust out.
Molly, just like I said with Lady T, it’s so much fun to set these goals, but don’t ever feel like they’re one more oppressive Thing To Do. I’ve loved having the 50-book goal this year because it kept me reading more than watching TV, and that’s a good thing. Although now I’m hooked on Gossip Girl and I don’t want to talk about it.
Kimmy, I’m cracking up at your attitude toward Wuthering Heights. And yes, you’ll be enjoying the Twilight series a LOT more.
Jen, I’m so glad you liked Faeries of Dreamdark! I really loved it. Can’t wait for book two, so if Laini is reading this, get back to work!
Kelley, it would be so easy for you to slack on your 20 minutes with a busy life like yours. Good job protecting that time for yourself every night. Sip away!
Katie Sis, how can you do that? I don’t think I could tear myself away from either Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows or Twilight long enough to read the other one! You must have a highly-evolved brain!
Jules, can’t believe you’re still reading strong. You’ve had a VERY busy year. If I were you, I’d be sitting watching reruns and kiddie shows all day long. You are my hero.
Sara, I’m so glad you liked Spanking Shakespeare! When someone really hits my funny bone I can’t shut up about it.
Shai, hope you enjoy Spanking Shakespeare, too! And have fun on your trip! And thanks for mentioning the Lemony Snicket book. I keep meaning to get that.
Dafluster, welcome to the book club! And thanks for reading my book! Sounds like you and Patrick are pals with your Patterson reading.
Miri, you’re tough! But I think you’re right–you’re totally spoiled by all your Japanese artwork. I know you are deeply in love with Fullmetal Alchemist. It’s good to love the books we love.
