Tuesday Book Club
It’s almost the end of the year! Yikes! What about all those books I meant to read! Too late! Oh, well, this is the beauty of a never-ending To Be Read pile. You can always carry it over into the new year, unlike income and expenses. So who cares if I didn’t get to all of them? I get to read whatever I want to. Nobody is the boss of my reading. And the same goes for all of you–whether or not you read as many books as you hoped to, or read all the ones you meant to, at least you got to read books this year and enjoy them. What could possibly be wrong with that?
Right now I’m reading a highly-anticipated first adult novel by an author whose YA novels are hugely popular (well-deserved). The novel won’t be out until next year, but I scored one of the coveted advance reading copies. The novel is riveting, but it’s also pretty thick, so it’s going to take me another several days to finish it (although I’d really rather put everything else aside and just read this to the end). Anyway, I’ll report on it next week. Can’t wait to tell you about it.
How about all of you? What sort of books are you closing out the year with?

I’m reading Garden of Darkness by Anne Frasier and Pretties by Scott Westerfeld. Hope to have both finished and Specials by SW started before the end of the year.
I think I’ll reduce my reading goal to a more manageable number next year. Been a great year of reading, though.

I finished Big Boned by Meg Cabot, which made for a nice distraction. Yesterday, I finally started Shannon Hale’s Princess Academy, which I’m loving. Sometimes I wait to read a book I’m looking forward to just because I know I’ll be sorry it’s over when I’m done reading. That’s completely what I’ve done with this book.

(BTW, yesterday I checked the blog and was all like, “Wow! Robin forgot to post the Tuesday Book Club. Maybe she’ll do it later.” I checked back a couple more times through the day before it dawned on me that yesterday was not Tuesday. I’m not sure what got me on the wrong track with that.)

Adrienne, glad to know I’m not the only one who loses track of the days. I love it when I have to get e-mails from people–Patrick, for example–saying, “Uh, it’s Tuesday, you know.” So always feel free to remind me if you think I’ve lost my mind.
And I loved Princess Academy! I know what you mean about putting off reading something you know you’re going to love so much you’ll be sorry that it’s over. Maybe that sounds weird to some people, but I totally get it.
Heather, I’m glad you keep reminding me–I need to read that series! 2008. And yeah, give yourself a break on your reading goals. It’s fun to pick a number–I’ll be going for 50 again next year–but it’s no fun if you use that to torment yourself for falling short. We’re against torment here.

Well,I finished reading a book that’ll be out just after New Year’s,The Pulpwood Queens’ Tiara Wearing,Book Sharing Guide to Life by Kathy L. Patrick(the founder of the Pulpwood Queens and owner of Beauty and the Book, the only beauty parlor/bookstore in the world that I know of). It’s a mix of memoir, recommended reading lists and tips on how to maintain a book club. It’s a definate must-read for book lovers.
Beyond that,I’m just trying to finish up some of my current reading pile so that I can move on to some of the goodies that are awaiting me for next year.

I’m working on the ARC of James Dashner’s book that’s coming out in the spring of ‘08: “The 13th Reality.” Lots of fun so far.
And if I guess what you’re reading, will you let me borrow the ARC next?

I’m almost done with “Knocked Out By Her Nuga Nugas: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson” Which I know the title sounds weired but it’s SOOOOO good lol the whole series is really! And then I’ve been working on Pride and Prejudice a bit… and reading the Amber Spyglass with my mom!

The Boyfriend List by E. Lockhart. Loved it! Will definitely be reading more of hers!

For the record, I’ve never said “Uh you know it’s Tuesday” on a Monday just to see if I could mess you up, but that seems like a good plan now.

I enjoyed “I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have To Kill You” by Ally Carter, a teen spy romance.
I finished listening to the audio book of The Golden Compass. It’s a great recording with a full cast of voices.
Also enjoyed the audio of The Princess Bride. It’s short- only 3 hours- but so fun to listen to Rob Reiner reading it.

I started reading a new book to my kids this week, The Nightmare Academy by Dean Lorey. It is so good that after I tucked them into bed, I kept reading it until I was finished. The kids are still enjoying their chapter a night. Tonight’s made them laugh. Love that.

Molly, I loved “The Boyfriend List” also.
I can’t remember what I mentioned last week, but I recently read “Someone Named Eva” and “Miss Spitfire”, bother powerful MG historical novels that I enjoyed. Yesterday I read “Everlost” by Neal Schusterman, and found it a fast-paced, entertaining read with a unique premise. Now I’m reading an adult mystery, the latest in a series about a librarian who solves mysteries (Miss Zukas).

As a writer, if you can’t carry income and expense into the new year - how much vacation time can you accrue and carry over?
