Tuesday Book Club
Look, there’s no way around it: I didn’t read a durn thing all week. Brought four books with me on vacation, but somehow reading never made it onto the schedule.
But this is a no-shame reading group, so I’ll set a good example by being nice to myself. We all do what we can.
But perhaps some of you read your little eyeballs out last week. (I know Little Willow did, and I’m sure BJ and Vc and Readerdiane and maybe Christen and Kimmy and–okay, lots of you–read your share as well as mine. Thank you for doing your part to balance out the universe of readers by continuing to tear through books while some of us take a rest.)
So let’s hear all about it. What did you guys read this week?

I put all my reading-in-progress titles aside for the moment to concentrate on two books(which I’m planning to review):The End of the World as We Know It by Robert Goolrick(memoir)and Kurt Andersen’s Heyday.
Heyday is great so far,a really rollicking read. Might lighten the pace with a quick reread-I’m thinking of Mr. Murder by Dean Koontz, since I caught the end of the tv movie adaptation over the weekend,on Lifetime channel,of all places!

Parts of various design and site-backend program (think CSS and PHP) books as needed…. but I never just read when I’m home. The couple hundred books I’ll read this year will happen over the long weekends and the weeks later in the year that we hunt - long weekends because I cant STAND it here with the million idiots and their ATV racetracking (which is yes, illegal, but law enforcement is A: an hour away, and B: doesn’t care); hunting trips because I while I generally have my laptop along to keep up with email, I don’t spend that much time on it….
Long weekends I get 15 to 20 books read; hunting trips I get 30 to 40 books read…. I’ll just keep a list and post it in December!

Okay, before I begin… do audiobooks count? I listened to an audiobook last week, but did not add it to my list. I wasn’t sure what to do because it is a book, but I did not *technically* read it. What do you all think?
Other than that, I read…
#18 Laurie Halse Anderson’s Prom. I loved this book! It was so funny and entertaining… I almost wish I could go to another prom =)
#19 Janet Evanovich’s 12 Sharp. Janet, I love you and you never let me down!
#20 Per Nilsson’s Heart’s Delight. I really liked the way this book was written. It was kind of sad, but very good!
And I’m reading another two books that I hope I will finish sometime tonight. Maybe… We’ll see…

Yep, Christen, audio books count.

Sorry to disappoint, but I started a class in php online, AND I’m hammered with work, so keeping up with 5 mailgroups (technical reading) and all the political and newspaper sites I’m subscribed to is about all the reading I’m doing. I have one novel I started but I’m lucky if I get a couple chapters read before I fall asleep.

Woohoo! In that case…
#21 Andrea Kane’s Wrong Place, Wrong Time. Yay for smut on audio =)

I read Valiant by Holly Black. And can I say WOW. It was amazing.
And don’t feel bad for not having read. I’ll be in that boat very soon as I’m pushing out a fast draft before April 1. I have to do a full rewrite, because I finally discovered what my freaking book was about. But I’m very excited. Really.

I’m so happy for all of you that you’ve been reading so much this year. (BJ, you are excused for the week, of course–especially since I’m sure you’ve already read 50 books this year, knowing you.)
Heather, good luck with your rewrite! It’s such a great feeling when you finally figure out your own book. It may sound silly to people who don’t write, but a lot of times we really are just tripping along for page after page, waiting for that day when we understand our characters and our story. Finally.
Lady T, good going, and Vc, I’m sure your list will be impressive.
And Christen, wow! Doing great!

Mystery books were my drug of choice this week.
Silenced by Syrah by Michele Scott and she leaves the end hanging, oh well wine & books doesn’t get much better than that.
Acts of Violets was good, and I can’t remember the third book.
I finished the YA book, The Red Kayak, we thought the ending was a let down. A couple of kids actually said,”Is that the ending?” Which was really too bad because the rest of the book was great.

“Mystery books were my drug of choice this week.”
Ha!

Readerdiane… I hate when the ending stinks. It doesn’t always have to be a happy ending, but a good ending is so important.

I read ‘In The Cut’ by Susanna Moore. It was fast, violent and brutal. I know a movie was made of it, but I don’t think I could watch that much violence-imagining it was enough.

I read Easy by Kerry Cohen Hoffmann and American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang. (Also absolutely ENGROSSED [blech] in a few books for work… The Leadership Challenge and The Librarian’s Legal Answer Book, anyone??)
Easy had potential, but I didn’t love it. It was only about 150 pages and there were things about it that were really good, but so much of it was underdeveloped that I didn’t get into it.
American Born Chinese was fabulous. It deserves every ounce of hype it’s received; I absolutely love it and have already passed it along to someone else to enjoy.

molly, “the librarian’s legal answer book”? wow–were can i get that!? what’s the sequal, “legally librarian”? (take it, its yours).

I finished the Everworld series, reading books 11 and 12 this past week. It was good to see an end to the series after all the time I’ve invested in it, but there were many (very interesting) dangling plot threads that I had really hoped to see addressed.

I read The Fortune Quilt by Lani Diane Rich this past weekend. Her books always go down so easy — like I’m chatting with a friend who’s telling me a crazy story about her crazy family. I read it practically straight through and it was very, very pleasant!

Yesterday, I read Tips on Having a Gay (Ex) Boyfriend by Carrie Jones and Eight Grade Bites by Heather Brewer, both forthcoming titles.
