Why you want to read Secret Society Girl
Okay, I just this split-second finished reading Diana Peterfruend’s novel Secret Society Girl (even though I should be packing), and here’s what I can report:
1. Yale (excuse me, Eli University) is NOT like a state school. Yes, there’s some envy in that. I’ve always wondered what those hoity-toity schools are like, and now I’m feeling left out. But it’s okay. It’s like getting a glimpse into the world of politics or fashion–I’m curious, but I know I wouldn’t fit in.
2. Love Amy Haskel. She says things you wish people would say. Plus she gets to make out with the school’s hottest man and still turn him down, plus she’s daring and brash, and we love that in our heroines. But you know what I love best about her? That she’s so insecure about why she was chosen to be part of the society. She looks around and sees all these superstars, and can’t figure out where she fits in. That rings so true. By the end you (and she) understand why she belongs, but I appreciate her confusion until then. She is the outsider, not believing she’s worthy of good things. How many of us have been there?
3. Love all the other women in the secret society. Each of them has different skills (sounds like Napoleon Dynamite, and each is so much fun to watch in action. I like a book that gathers together some smart, won’t-back-down kind of kick-ass women. We can always pick up some pointers.
4. It cured my apathy about reading. Apparently what it took was a fun book with a smart heroine to yank me out of my stupor. Now I can keep going on the TBR pile and get some reading done on vacation (paperbacks only–I’m backpacking, you know).

Glad to hear that your reading slump is over(it just takes the right book!) and I remember seeing Secret Society Girl being featured at Bookreporter.com in one of their Beach Bag giveaways. Sounds like one to keep in mind.
As a newly converted Gilmore Girls fan,I have abit of interest in Yale(especially with ABC Family repeating Rory’s first days at college episodes)-I don’t why people complain when high school tv characters go off to college,isn’t that a good thing even in fictional life?
I couldn’t find a copy in the store today.
I’ll have to read a different book tomorrow. I’ll check a different store and read it Friday.
