Important chocolate contest update

Since the temperature here is in the 90s already, I think we all need to face the fact that allegedly summer is coming.

And those of you who won chocolate in my chocolate drawing last summer know that despite all attempts to keep the gift from evaporating, often what you got from FedEx was a puddle of brown goo.

So as much as I like to give you all chocolate, all year round, I think it makes more sense over the summer–starting with the May drawing–to move on to other choices.

After investigating and sampling (because I care about you–believe me, it’s not like I enjoyed it) several choices, I’ve narrowed it down to two:

–Non-melty sweets in the form of cookies, cakes, etc.

–The world’s best coffee in sufficient quantities to keep you up for many nights

Oh, and I guess there’s really a third choice:

–If and when you win, you can pick sweets or coffee then.

I guess that makes the most sense, but I’d be interested in your thoughts.

And most of all, what I want to know is whether any of you will feel cheated if my chocolate contest doesn’t involve chocolate during the sweltering months.

Well, the FDA is considering changes to their chocolate rules, so I don’t see why you can’t too:

  2. Kimmy says:

As much as I LOVE the chocolates, I wouldn’t feel cheated if I were getting “the world’s best coffee”

  3. Miri says:

I won’t feel cheated at all. I have a time-honored tradition of living on one caffeinated drink to the next during the summer.

  4. Lizzie says:

Anyone who feels cheated because the free stuff they got isn’t the free stuff they wanted needs to seriously reevaluate their life.

  5. robin says:

    Ha!

  6. Christen says:

Oh man… I would do unspeakable things for a giant homemade chocolate chip cookie right now!!!

  7. annette says:

i tried some of that there “world’s best coffee”-cannnot argue with rb on this one, it’s great.

  8. robin says:

Annette, thank you for admitting that there are some things you can’t argue with me about. I’m keeping a list.

Christen, I happen to know that you’re graduating in 18 days, and I want to tell you early congratulations!! What an achievement!

Sara, thank you for that important news flash. The government is going to allow something to be called chocolate even though it’s made with vegetable oil instead of cocoa butter? EXCUSE ME?? I may disagree with a lot of things my government does, but now they’re going too far.

Miri, Kimmy, and Lizzie (and all of you who are secretly thinking what they said, but you’re too shy to write in), thank you for your support on this.

  9. annette says:

so now you’re up to “one”? (omg–patrick is in my head!)

  10. Patrick says:

Oooh! Another list! Don’t forget to add it to your list of lists.

  11. Deborah says:

I don’t drink coffee or caffeine, so I would vote for either the cookies or the cheesecakes, although it will probably be too hot for the cheesecakes too.

  12. How about chocolate flavored coffee?

  13. robin says:

    Ha, Heather, there’s a thought.

Deborah, no coffee? How do you live? I’ll look into cheesecakes. See how well they do in the heat. I think you’re probably right, though.

  14. Deborah says:

I’ve had like two sips of coffee in my life and i just don’t like it, most of the time I don’t even like the smell of it. I’m a tea drinker. Not fussy herbal teas, just decaf. ones. I haven’t had caffeine in over 13 years, except for the little I get in my minimal chocolate episodes. Frankly, the thought of me on caffeine is scary.

  15. robin says:

Okay, Deborah, I’ll take your word for it. Thanks for watching out for all of us.

  16. bj says:

Might I suggest one more “trial” to put on your list? I got Zingerman’s Bakehouse Brownies for Christmas from Scott of http://scenesfromthepast.com and they were EXCELLENT. http://www.zingermans.com/Index.pasp

  17. annette says:

    how about gold dubloons?

  18. I live in Seattle, so the world’s best coffee would be coals to Newcastle for me.

Oh, who am I kidding. Twist my rubber arm, already!

  19. Patrick says:

    Signed photos of me?

  20. robin says:

Patrick, who could afford those? I’m on a budget here.

Aldelda, I loved being in Seattle last month for just that reason. But I still think the coffee I’d be sending is the best ever. You might need to do a taste test for me.

BJ, brownies is definitely a viable choice. I’ll look into it–thanks!

Annette, see above re Patrick’s photos.
