Diana’s book launch!

Hey, everyone, our friend Diana Peterfreund’s novel Secret Society Girl debuts today! This is your chance to push someone onto the best-seller list by buying her book in the first week. But don’t just do it for the thrill of manipulating the market, do it because the book sounds awesome.

Ever wonder what goes on in those Ivy League secret societies? Diana is a former Yalie who’s daring to tell all (yes, yes, it’s fiction, but we novelists don’t make everything up).

The Washington Post says: The action is undeniably juicy — from steamy make-out sessions with campus hotties to cloak-and-dagger initiations — and the book is a quick read.

Sounds like a perfect summer book to me.

I’m expecting my copy to arrive on my doorstep today or tomorrow. Meanwhile, head out to your local bookstore, sweep Diana’s book off the shelf, and report back how much you loved it.

Congratulations, Diana! What a happy day!

And for those wondering, here’s the book’s homepage –
http://www.secretsocietygirl.com/home.htm (you only linked her blog)

And right now, she is in a Borders bookstore. RIGHT NOW! Hurry! What be you waitin’ fer?

And just to share a little known fact about me –
(it wouldn’t be a true Patrick post if it wasn’t about me)
    – I was once in a secret sorority.

I’m confused about this whole ‘writers make things up’ thing. We’re allowed to do that? Aren’t there rules? I mean, you couldn’t just say that descendants of Jesus are still alive could you?

diana, CONGRATULATONS!!!!! i googled YOU!!!!! will definitely be purchasing the book. question: from a writer’s perspective is it more advantageous for the buy to come from a)local, independent bookseller, b) b&n or, c) amazon??? i await your instruction.

please remember when you are r&f, up there accepting your oscar, tony or whatever, I offered to clean your house, with an uzi, that doesn’t happen everyday. again, wow, way to go!

Annette - in situations like these, when there is some confusion, it’s best to buy from all three.

Actually, I’m not sure which bestseller list Amazon reports. I think B&N will count toward NYT and independents will count toward Publishers Weekly. Amazon is probably PW as well.

How long does an uzi cleaning take? I like when things get thrown out. That just gives me an excuse to buy more. Just don’t touch the books.

patrick, i’m just going to come out with it–sometimes i don’t think you tell the truth. i don’t want to be harsh or discourage your “creative” side but, (in the interest of preserving the integrity of the blog), have to ask the tough questions: in addition to being in a “secret sorority”, are you, or have you ever been, a recovering drug addict with a horrific but ultimately uplifting story of recovery and redemption to tell, or perhaps you traveled to texas to chronicle the travails of a heart broken family of a soldier killed in iraq, or maybe, like me, you’re simply the abandoned red-head child of a seafaring father with a monkey as your only true friend and confidant? let us in patrick, we’re on your side, we understand and only want to help.

uzi cleaning? takes as long as it takes–not for sissies.

Have I ever told you about the time I climbed Everest blindfolded?

Annette, thanks for asking that question about whether it’s better for Diana (or any of us with books) for you to buy from a bookstore or someplace like Amazon.

I checked with Diana, and she said anywhere you want to buy is great–your choice, and thank you very much.

Just for all of our information, some stores are “reporting stores,” the way some lucky TV viewers get to be Nielsen families. But since we don’t know which stores those are, any sale is a good sale.

patrick, i think there’s a book there. but before you go on oprah, we need to talk.

  8. Patrick Says:

Can I jump on her couch?

Finally coming down off the ceiling…

Thanks so much, guys! I wish I knew answers to questions like that. I don’t, though. I buy a lot of things off Amazon. I buy a lot of things at my local hains. I buy a lot of other things at my local bookstore. I buy still more at the supermarket. In general, I get a lot of books…

And let’s not forget the library!

I don’t think I could forget the Uzi, even if I tried.
