Early Christmas
Yesterday our very own beloved Miri sent me this. Along with a note saying she’d bought it in an actual bookstore that very day.
It’s weird, but I’ve been feeling strangely disconnected from this whole the-book-is-actually-coming-out thing. I don’t know if it’s because I’m trying not to be nervous, or if (as Sara pointed out when I brought this up to her privately yesterday) it’s just that there have been so many interim steps that now the Big Event feels somehow unreal. Or maybe I’ve just been eating too much Chex Mix and chocolate, and it’s affected my brain.
But what I want to say is that seeing that picture from Miri yesterday really got to me. It is real, I guess, isn’t it?
Thank you, Miri! Thank you for waking me up. And thanks to all of you who have been telling me you’ve ordered the book or are looking forward to getting it. I feel kind of shy about this whole thing. Like I’m showing you my underwear. But I think it’s clean, and I checked it for holes, and really, there’s nothing more I can do about it anymore anyway. It’s coming, or apparently in some places, it’s already here.
GULP! IT’S CHRISTMAS!
Now let’s go eat some pie.
(P.S. I’m going to be in Phoenix all day, teaching a girls’ writing class. One of the perks of being an author! I’ll catch up with you when I get back.)

I understand the ‘disconnected’ part, Robin…I felt the same way when IT’S TIME came out. And I was thinking about you last night, when Patrick was talking about his trip. I’d like a signed copy, please…make sure Patrick brings me one!
And congratulations! And RELAX and have fun with it!
You’re so, so welcome, Robin. I seriously saw it in the bookstore and said to the ‘rents, “It would be wrong not to get this.”
I finished it at 2:00 this morning, and now I’m sure it would have been wrong not to get it.
Folks, its fabulous. Spoiler-free review going up at my blog any second now.
Robin — This is the part when the book completely takes on a life of its own. You ARE disconnected from it. You’re sending your kid off to college and you can only hope she does you proud.
WE all know she will, but she’s YOUR kid, so you’re somewhat numb about the whole thing.
If any Tucson bloggers spot it this weekend, please email me!
Robin, I ordered it today. And not only do I plan to take a picture of myself reading it, I will also tell you what I’m eating as I do. (Will that make it real enough for you?)
Merry, merry Christmas and a happy start to your book year!
miri, you look good in that book.
hey rb go over to amazon and see who they’re two-fering “freaks” with–i think you will be quite pleased (hint: author’s initials are s.m.)
The Borders in Plano is holding a copy for me.
I’ll pick it up this evening or tomorrow. Yay!
You’re on your way, you’re on your way!!!
How exciting!!!
Far more than a little trip to elsewhere. This is that One Giant Step kind of thing.
SO looking forward to getting mine!
Cheers!!!!!!
What a nice surprise, indeed! Now if you can just get that spot on Oprah,or better yet,The Stephen Colbert Report(he talks to writers, too, you know!),you could have an early birthday as well:)
Lady T, wouldn’t that be the coolest thing ever? Either one of those! I’ll squirrel them away in my Hope Chest.
TadMack, not to argue with you, but I do think that your moving to
Scotland next week is a Pretty Huge Deal. So let’s call ourselves even on exciting things right now.
Heather, sweet! Thank you! Hope you enjoy it!
Annette, thanks for telling me about the Stephenie Meyer two-fer. How wonderful is that? And I agree–doesn’t Miri look great?
Sara, I would LOVE it if you’d tell me what kind of decadent food combo you work out to go with reading my book. That would be a treat on so many levels.
Laura, I think you’re right about comparing it to a kid going off to college. Hope she doesn’t drink or fall in with the wrong crowd.
Miri, thank you so much for that wonderful review. You’ve now made my day more than once in the past 48 hours!
And Judy, you bet Patrick will bring you home a signed copy. I’m so glad other people are finally going to be able to meet the Space Lord!
Hi Robin! I just read all about you and your upcoming book over at http://www.squeetus.com and I’m really excited to read it!
Take a deep breath and smile. Calm those nerves.
Thanks, Little Willow. Inhale, inhale–oh, exhale . . .
Hi, Calliope! Thanks for writing. Shannon was so sweet to do that interview. I loved her novel Austenland so very much (everyone here on the blog has heard me gush about it already), so it was extra nice to be a guest on her blog!
OOOHH!!! I can’t wait to meet me. That’s going to be so exciting!!!
patrick, settle down. you have met you. i want you to go into the bathroom with a digital camera and take a picture of the person in the mirror. look at the photo. now go get an earlier, although recent, photo of a person (or space lord) you know to be you. compare the two. voila! now print the newer photo and write in big letters “PATRICK, S.L.” and carry it in your wallet.
My copy will be one of over 400 I’m ordering from Random House for my library’s One Book, Every Freshman. Yes, it’s happening. I’m so happy I could pee myself.
annette – I think I’ll wait for you to introduce me.
Molly! You’re fantastic!!
I think it’s unreal because maybe you’re floating. Have you checked? Y’know, just slightly elevated feet and heart rate. Head in the clouds. All that? If not, you should be. Go ahead…
Happy Book Birthday! I was checking in today (Tuesday) but it looks like your book snuck out early. Tricky, tricky. Enjoy the ride. (Of course I already know that the book rocks.)
Molly, that is FANTASTIC. Wow! Wow!
P.S. Molly, is this a nationwide program or something localish? I’d love to find out the details. Please let me know – Email or comment @ my blog!
