Here’s our 48-hour film!

Here it is, the result of our latest 48 Hour Film Project!

Last Friday the director, Bill Coughlan of Tohubohu Productions, drew at random the following elements that we had to work into our film:

Genre: Horror
Prop: Horn
Character: Marco Gabbowitz, who works with animals
Line of dialogue: “Do you think you can do that again?”

Then Friday night Bill and I collaborated on the script, he and the crew and actors filmed it all Saturday, and on Sunday he did the editing, added the special effects, added the musical score, the credits, etc. It’s really a whirlwind process–48 hours is no time at all.

Plus, as I mentioned in my comment to the last post, when we drew horror I totally drew a blank. That is so not my genre. But thanks to the creativity and talent of Bill, the actors, and the crew, I think this film turned out creepy and fun! I’m really pleased with the result–hope you will be, too.

So here it is, the short film known as Liability. (And be sure to keep your eyes open throughout–there are all sorts of hidden surprises.)

[UPDATED TO ADD:] Um, speaking of surprises–how did I miss seeing the babysitter at the end carrying Fat Cat? Thank you to alert viewer Bethany for pointing that out! And thank you, Bill Coughlan for that sneaky cameo. Nice touch, man.]

Dude! You do the 48-hour challenges too? You are a rock star. We did one a few years ago (also horror) and had a total blast. Ours had a three minute limit though. Seven minutes over a weekend is an eternity. So cool!

  2. I’m sitting at home alone and I’m a little freaked out. Super job on the film.

Tom, I’m happy any time someone starts a sentence with “Dude!” By the way, have I mentioned in enough places how much I admire and enjoyed your new novel PARTY? It’s so, so excellent.

Laura, sorry about that! That’s why I can’t write horror–I get too freaked out, too. *brrr*

  4. Elizabeth says:

Robin, you’ve been my hero ever since the first time I picked up Evolution… Is there anything you don’t do?

I’d have made you some chocolate zucchini bread for luck and sustenance if I had known about this enough in advance. Word has it the stuff calls the muses.

  5. robin says:

Elizabeth, to quote Tom Leveen, “Dude!” You know how much I depend on your chocolate zucchini bread. So fear not, I often rely on it to get me through the rough spots.

And for those of you wondering, “Chocolate zucchini bread? Why are they being so mean? Why won’t they share this magical recipe??”–here it is: http://bit.ly/50tDUD

Because Elizabeth is right: that stuff has powers.

  6. Bethany says:

What can I say, I have eyes like a hawk. But I do not have the powers of chocolate zucchini bread.

  7. Patrick Alan says:

I still do not have an Elizabeth made CZB.

    The CZB Apocalypse is NIGH!
