Once again, if it’s in PW, it must be true

A friend of mine (thank you, Joanne!) just forwarded me this deal announcement from Publisher’s Weekly [whoops, correction: Just found out it's in Publisher's Marketplace. Carry on].

Can I confess it gives me chills to see it right there in print? It must mean I’m actually writing this book right now–WHICH I AM. So much fun. Here’s the info:

Robin Brande’s PARALLELOGRAM, about a high school girl science genius who sets out to prove that quantum physics and string theory are correct and discovers an alternate and very different version of herself in a parallel universe, to Michelle Frey at Knopf Children’s, by Laura Rennert at Andrea Brown Literary Agency (NA).

Whatcha think? Has some possibilities, eh?

Oh, more than you know, my friends. Which is why I need to get back to it now . . .

  1. Joanne Levy says:

Love this (and you’re welcome) and I can’t wait to read it! Maybe you’ll get mention on The Big Bang Theory – isn’t Sheldon doing something with string theory? Anyway – HUGE congrats, Robin!

  2. Shari says:

Your book sounds fantastic! Congrats on the sale. :D

  3. Bill says:

Sounds awesome — can’t wait to read it!

Okay, I’ll let you get back to work now.

  4. robin says:

Thank you, Joanne and Shari and Bill! It’s funny how excited I am to see it in print like that. As if I didn’t know what I was working on.

But now it’s real, apparently. Always a good thing!

  5. adrienne says:

I’ve been wondering what you’ve been up to with all that string-theory-reading. I’m already in line, man. Parallel universes are totally my thing–not that I understand them, mind you, but you’ll take care of that for me, right? :)

  6. That sounds awesome. Sixteen-year-old me would have loved it, and the current me will too!

  7. Sheila Beaumont says:

Sounds fascinating! As a big fan of Evolution, Me & Other Freak of Nature, I’m really looking forward to this one!

  8. robin says:

Thank you, Sheila–I really appreciate that!

Sarah, I’m glad you feel that way–that’s absolutely what I’m going for (and you’re the kind of person I’m writing for!).

Adrienne, I fully understand that part of my job is to do everyone’s science homework and then explain it as quickly and amusingly as I can. Quantum physics is no exception! It’s a total laugh riot!

  9. Kelley says:

Totally awesome, Robin! I just love the way your mind works. And yes…it’s beyond fabulous that you’re successful now to the point that they advertise your book before it’s even finished. Many congrats!

  10. Becky says:

Sounds like it will be very interesting (and fun!)

  11. robin says:

That’s true, Kelley, but it also sort of keeps the pressure on, you know? Which is why I’ve been writing even faster ever since I saw the announcement. Gak!

Becky, it’s been a blast to do the research, let me tell you. This field is SOOO trippy.

  12. Shai says:

From the brain of Robin! Can’t wait to read it!!

  13. Angelique says:

It’s cause you ROCK! I’m on pins and needles until I can read it!!!

  14. Vivian says:

This is wonderful news. Congratulations, Robin!

  15. Huge Congratulations, Robin!!! Yay for you!!! Sounds super intriguing, too.

  16. Lady T says:

Congrats from this corner, too,Robin! I like the theme of this one a lot;sounds very sci-fi.

  17. Miss Erin says:

That sounds WONDERFUL. I can’t wait to read it!

  18. robin says:

Shai, you make it sound like a disaster flick. “From the mind of Robin” (echo, echo, echo . . .)

Thank you, Angelique, Vivian, Kimberley, Lady T, and Miss Erin! You really don’t know how much it makes me smile to have such happy comments waiting for me. Makes me feel very motivated!

  19. Shannon says:

Ah-HOW DID I MISS THIS POST YESTERDAY?

That book sounds amazing (not that I’m surprised) Now if only I could fast forward in time (without getting any older) so I could have it to read RIGHT NOW! Any way you can arrange that? C’mon, writers have magic powers, right?

  20. robin says:

Thanks for your excitement, Shannon! Please don’t fast-forward, though–I need all the time I can get to meet my deadline.

  21. Love the title! When does this come out?

  22. robin says:

    2011, I believe. Unless I’ve lost track.

  23. Patrick says:

I just wanted to share this.

As we all know, Robin is a ‘method’ writer and in researching string theory and quantum stuff, she also found an Alternate Robin.

I have met Alternate Robin. She is very tall.

  24. robin says:

Patrick, I can’t deny it. Any of it.

  25. Patrick says:

Robin woke to the wonderful smell of chocolate and zucchini. Groggily, she slipped from bed and shrugged into her fleece robe and headed toward the smell.

“Goodmorning, Alternate Robin,” she said, as she reached the kitchen.

“Goodmorning, Puny Robin,” bellowed the eleven foot Robin, hunched over to keep from smacking her head against the ceiling.

“You don’t have to call me that.”

    “Oh. Goodmorning, Puny.”

Robin frowned at the long golden haired alternate her. Though it was hard to frown at her when she turned those giant red golden eyes on her.

“Why aren’t you staying in the livingroom with the cathedral ceiling so you don’t have to hunch over?

Alternate Robin turned so quickly to face Puny Robin her butt hit and dented the stainless steel refridgerator door.

“Well! Frankly, I can’t believe you haven’t been making Puny Patrick any Puny Chocolate Zucchini Bread.”

Her four inch silvery vampire fangs glistened as she showed Puny Robin her teeth. Her nine fingered hands pressed firly against her hips.

Puny Robin quickly made herself a cup of coffee and then spit out the first sip in surprise and shock.

“Puny Patrick is even cuter than Alternate Patrick, you know, which I didn’t think was possible. And he needs puny chocolate zucchini bread to survive!”

Puny, err.. normal Robin took another sip and spit more coffee out, then brewed another pot so she would have more coffee to spit. There was definitely something Alternate about this tall Robin, but she still couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

  26. tanita says:

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I love that you’re doing EVERYTHING — romance, SFF, genre fiction, the works. I’m expecting mysteries, historical and nonfiction next. Just sayin’.

    Or else, westerns.

    YAAAAAAAAY!

  27. robin says:

Tanita, doll, don’t be congratulating ME today! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to you for the Coretta Scott King award for “Mare’s War”! You rock, and you rock it hard. I’m soooooo happy for you!

Patrick, have I ever mentioned that everything on the blog is mine? So thank you for that lengthy comment. It is now my Chapter 24. (All right, kidding. But it is very entertaining–thank you!)

  28. Elizabeth says:

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

  29. Elizabeth says:

Now that I’ve finished jumping up and down on your behalf, I have to ask…is there any weird/obscure/controversial topic that you’re afraid of? Quantum physics and string theory??? You’re probably the bravest person I know.

  30. robin says:

Thank you for your big Yay, Elizabeth! And thanks for cracking me up with the follow-up question. I guess the answer is no, I’m not afraid of weird, obscure, or controversial topics. I always figure if something sounds interesting to me, there’s got to be at least a few people out there who might feel the same way.

Next time, naked mole rats! Kidding–that’s already been done.
