Writing, reading, and other vital matters

Please support me in not procrastinating

Big, superhairy deadline in 26 days, and I’ll be spending 8 of those on the road, and 5 of those are Sundays and I don’t work on Sundays, so really I have no business being on this blog now or starting a Twitter account last weekend or playing on Facebook or reading other YA author’s fabulous books (A.S. King’s Dust of a Hundred Dogs, Lisa McMann’s Fade, Sara Zarr’s Sweethearts) or reading the newspaper or doing any of the other things I seem to be doing lately instead of WORKING ON MY REWRITES FOR BOOK THREE. Which I really want to do, so I don’t know what my problem is, except sometimes when I get like this I’m almost too hyped up to work.

So please don’t comment here, please don’t call me or e-mail me or be friendly to me in any way. It’s like those nervous little dogs who pee all over themselves if you even look at them. Don’t make me pee on myself. I have to do my work.

    To everyone but Robin –

Nick Arrojo says your superhairy deadline is getting in the way of your stunning blog. Being all superhairy, it lacks style.

So what we are going to do is add a little color, and then smooth it out some, add a few layers, and razor cut the edges to give it some of that sass.

And Voila, look at your deadline now. Sexy and sophisticated, with a little bit of an edge! See how it really brings out your blog! Go ahead, play with it. Be flirty! How do you feel?

  2. robin says:

Okay, THAT is funny. Not that I read it.

    Psssssssss . . .

  3. Patrick says:

Hey! Get back to your sexy, sophisticated, edgy, rewrites!

  4. A.S. King says:

    Robin,

If you don’t hurry up and finish this next book I will be very very cross. I LOVED Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature a lot.

    Amy

  5. robin says:

Thank you, Amy! That means a lot coming from the person whose book I wanted to marry this weekend.

  6. “I don’t work on Sundays.” That’s so funny. I bet you will.

  7. robin says:

Laura, the cynicism! Hey, I’m not even working right now!

    Back to chapter four . . .

  8. See, what I do is PRETEND that my second book has a deadline, and I don’t work on it like I should, so it’s nice to see that someone who actually HAS a deadline doesn’t work on what she needs to do, either. :)

  9. robin says:

Beth, trust me, it will never end. But congrats on getting one book done–now on to your second! Once you’ve finished one you at least know you can do that. It really builds confidence. Good luck!

  10. Things I heard my kids say today on a family picnic:

    Daughter: “I’m so sassy.”

    Youngest: “That sounds dangerous.”

The lesson? Everyone needs some sassy, even if they are on a deadline and distracted by the excitement of being able to see me next week. ;)

  11. robin says:

ExCUSE me?? Heather, are you going to be there when I visit those Dallas schools? What’s UP?????

  12. Rent has been paid for this month. Ha!!

Hubs went to the new outsourcing company. Not sure how long it will last, but we hope to finish the school year at least.

  13. robin says:

Sweet! Plans to follow! (Um, off-blog if you guys don’t mind. You probably don’t need the details.)

  14. Patrick says:

Oh man, you guys are going to talk about me again.

    Ok.

  15. Lady T says:

Not trying to distract you,Robin-just popped in to say “Go,go,go!” on finishing your project. You can do it:)!

  16. robin says:

Yes, Patrick, it’s always about you. That’s not your imagination.

Lady T, thank you! I’m going!

  17. Robin,
As you asked, I will not be friendly to you in any way. If that’s what you want, that’s what you’ll get. I take my friends literally, seriously, with no nonsense or silliness. Pay no attention to the jester hat I’m wearing, nor to the stick with the bells. I’m just trying on clothes for the Renaissance Fair.

    –Farida

  18. robin says:

Farida, are you really participating in the Renaissance Fair? I’ll bet you’ll look so cute. But don’t answer. Then I’ll just get drawn into conversation instead of writing pretend dialogue on a page. But thanks for checking in!

  19. Michelle says:

Thank YOU Robin for helping me to procrastinate by reading your fabulous blog. However, I am selfishly concerned because I REALLY want to read this third book that you are procrastinating on. GET TO IT! NOW!!! I am cracking the whip here… NO DELAYS!
