Podcast interview and helping ETC

Two things to bring before you today:

1. I have no idea if or when any of my TV interviews will ever make the Internet airwaves, but if you’re really interested in some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of my writing and my life, I’ve posted a really fun interview I did last month with three librarians who run a podcast interview site called Read This! The first part of the podcast is the three of them reviewing my book (which they did behind my back), and the rest is our fast-talking interview. Don’t be confused if you hear references to U of A and ASU–they’re our two rival universities, and any time you get people from both schools in the same room, you’re bound to have some ribbing.

I really had a great time with this interview. Tim Furman, Lisa Bowen, and Tim Loge had some great questions, and they kept the whole thing light and casual. You can tell I wasn’t nervous, since I didn’t lisp (something I can definitely hear during the author interview portion of my audio book). So anyway, listen if you’re inclined. It’s a long one.

2. Remember when I highlighted the nonprofit organization Embracing the Child a while ago? Well, they need our help. And soon. Some of their most reliable funding has dropped off this year for reasons that have nothing to do with ETC, and the director, Pat Kindermann, would love it if we’d help provide new or like-new books to her organization so she can continue giving them away to underprivileged children (the new or like-new request is so that each child will have the experience of owning a brand new book of his or her own–something some of them have never had before). So I’ve boxed up a whole bunch of YA novels I read and treated kindly, and I’ll be sending her more as the months progress.

So if you’re like me, and you want to not only do some good in the world, but also clean off your insanely-cluttered bookshelves, consider sending ETC some of those great books you know you’re never going to reread. And if you feel like it, maybe you’d like to throw in a check as well. Your call.

Oh, and there’s also another simple way to support the organization: if you make your Amazon.com purchases through the ETC website, ETC gets some portion of the sale proceeds. How easy is that?

There’s an address listed on the website, but Pat would prefer we send things more directly to her at:

Embracing the Child
1000 Lake Drive
Bedford, VA 24523

Thank you for whatever you can do!

Aww, thanks, Heather! Maybe someday soon we’ll actually meet in person, instead of that one voice contact of talking on the phone!

Not to repeat your other fans, but I loved your podcast interview. It is interesting to me to hear how other people react to your topic covered in your first book and how they love your characters. You should feel so good all over with the positive feedback. Never mind the one city that thinks your topic is too controversial for a TV interview and discussion. For shame, I am boycotting this station.
