Raising kids (and ourselves) to become entrepreneurs
These past several months I’ve been linking to a great series by award-winning author Kristine Kathryn Rusch called The Freelancer’s Survival Guide. If you haven’t kept up with those posts, please do yourself the favor of going back through her index and reading as much of the series as you can. If you have any aspiration to quit your day job and become a full-time writer or other kind of freelancer, those posts by Kris Rusch will set you ahead by leaps and bounds.
As further inspiration, I offer you this great talk by entrepreneur Cameron Herold, describing his struggles in school and his early realization that his future was as an entrepreneur, not an employee. You’ll also get some great ideas about how parents can nurture that talent in their children.
And don’t forget, it’s never too late to take that advice yourself and start raising yourself from now on to become an entrepreneur. True security lies in being your own boss and creating something that the world needs, instead of just working on someone else’s vision. A lot of people in this down economy are discovering just that.
