Take heed, Spell Checkers
I don’t know how he’s able to pull off talking like this. It must have taken hours of practice. Check it out.
UPDATED: Lady T. is absolutely right. You have to watch this, too. It gave me chills it’s so great!

That was brilliant-thanks for linking that clip,Robin! I watched Mali’s “What Teachers Make” clip right after it and am truly impressed by this guy. Wish he had been one of my teachers back in the day:)
That makes my brain hurt…
Too bad teachers can’t link to that! But I might just have to slip in a sly “I know what you make” to a favorite teacher and see if they smile.
The first one didn’t do it for me, but I watched the second one, “What Do I Make,” twice. Fantastic.
my two sisters are both former educators, so the “what do i make” really resonated with me, because they are so very kick-ass. i forwarded it to both of them. thanks.
Like Lady T (and not just because of the name similarity, as I saw her comment afterwards!), I was drawn to ‘What Teachers Make’, and found it just wonderful. Nice links.
Wow! Those were both awesome. I only knew Taylor Mali for one of my favorite poems, “Falling In Love Is Like Owning a Dog,” but I’d never seen him perform before. What a presence.
I had to check out Taylor Mali’s website after watching these. I’m not sure whether I should admit this or not, but I’ve never heard of slam poetry before. Very interesting stuff. Thanks for the links.
Ooh, I love the second one. I wish I knew some teachers! The only one I know retired to be a lady of leisure, so I don’t know if she would appreciate it, ha ha!
