The Friday List (nice things you’ve done for yourself this week)

Sorry this is a little late. I kind of . . . forgot what day it is.

Which is good, because it means I’ve been writing a lot and time is no longer relevant. Yay! This is how we like it.

My nice thing this week has been rewarding myself for long days at the keyboard by renting movies to watch every night. So I am living completely in Fiction Land right now, which is a nice place to be.

I have to get back to my story now, so I’m keeping my part of the List short. How about you guys? What especially kind things have you been doing for yourselves in the midst of this busy holiday/end-of-year season?

    Bookstore work, website work, performances!

I am being nice to myself by not making any plans for the weekend, besides going to Borders tonight to buy The Luxe for my library, meet with my writers’ group (which consists of two people, including me), and maybe buy something fun for myself. Hooray! :)

Um read a lot of pride and prejudice yesterday…. and then I read some of my favortie parts of eclipse before bed! ^^ lol other then that… I’m gonna see some friends today!

Got out all 9 boxes of Christmas decorations and completely tranformed the house interior and even got a few things on the exterior before I found myself limited by total lack of exterior electrical outlets. Bah Humbug at that! Tree bought, trimmed and decorated. Gingerbread house made. I’m loving it! I am going to put my holiday spirit on hold for the next 24 hours as I am about to board a plane for San Fran to work and my Holiday Spirit is severely challenged in airports.

Stayed up until 1:30 in the morning last night reading a book cover to cover. Not sure if it was consciously a nice thing to do for myself - it was more that I couldn’t help myself, but then I slept in this morning.

The book was Someone Named Eva by Joan M. Wolf.

Began a gratitude journal. It has really improved my mood. :)

  7. Vivian Says:

I like the idea of a gratitude journal, Heather. I might have to borrow that idea.

I went to bed early all week long. It was awesome.

Robin, I’m incredibly excited to hear how much you’re writing! I can’t wait to read it. I’d be interested in what movies you’ve rented. Enjoy Enchanted this weekend!

Nice for me this week is not getting caught up in the small stuff, like how (un)neat my house is, how high the laundry is piling, and getting everything done just so and just at the right moment. It’s kinda freeing. Also, continuing to hoard my reading moments before bed.

I bought a new car. It was a bit of a necessity, but, at the moment, it feels like it was also a nice thing. Of course, I haven’t made a payment yet. We’ll see how I feel about it in a few months, but, right now, I have a car that rides nice and feels safe and has a heater that provides me with heat before I’ve been driving for twenty minutes. Yay!

I usually am not a party-thrower, but have been inspired to do so this year since my geek group is truly worthy of being spoiled and I am totally enjoying being the one doing the spoiling. And I’m paying someone else to do the work so I can actually enjoy my own party. The party is Sunday. And I’m not stressed about it. How sweet is that!

I’m launching a new website very soon. Not often I get to do work on my own sites, since it’s a bit of a “cobbler’s children have no shoes” thing.

I’m glad to hear you’re back in the groove, Robin. Can’t wait to see the results!

Adrienne, congratulations on getting a car! Whoopee!! That makes you and Heather this year–anyone else? And a heater! You certainly deserve that!!!

Little Willow, you lead such a full and creative life. I love that you’re out there performing along with everything else you do.

Molly, you KNOW I’m glad to hear you’re in a writing group, no matter how large or small. You need to get your writing out there, and that’s an excellent first step!

Dylan, I just reread Eclipse last week. I’ll bet I can guess what some of those favorite scenes are. Are some of them in the chapter “Compromise”?

Deborah, I’m glad to know there’s at least one Christmas elf out there picking up the slack for bah-humbuggers like me. You make it sound so festive and cheery. I’m glad to know people who enjoy it get to do it. What sucks is when you feel like you have to decorate and be all Christmassy if you don’t want to. I’m against that. So carry on for the rest of us!

Jen, staying up late to read a book is a real treat. It’s like being a kid again, without a thought about the next day’s responsibilities. Sleeping in is the perfect capper to that. How nice for you.

Heather, that’s so cool you’ve started a gratitude journal. It really does change your perspective, doesn’t it? I’ll be interested in hearing how that feels for you as you continue over time.

Vivian, getting loads of sleep certainly is awesome. Especially in the winter. Good job putting yourself to bed early enough to max out.

Kelley, I’m all for letting the house go sometimes in favor of relaxing and not rushing around so much. There’s a level of clutter that may not pass the white-glove test, but that suits a lived-in home pretty well. And you’re already doing enough with your little girls. Take a break.

BJ, what fun! Especially the part about paying someone else to do the work so you can enjoy your own party. Bravo for that. Have a great time tomorrow!
