The What Not To Do series
Hi, y’all. Here’s the thought and the plan:
I’m going to start a What Not To Do series based on my own particular mistakes with my writing career (oh yes, we’ll go there), and give you guys a chance to add your own experiences so we can all learn from each other (great suggestion, Shai!).
What I need to know from you right now is what categories you’d like to see covered. The things that spring to mind are the query letter, dealing with agents, dealing with editors, the book launch, publicity, blogging, etc.
But what would all of you like to see covered?
Yes, yes, yes! All of the above. Plus what to look for in a contract. Not that I’m there. But it’ll be good to know.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Clothing choices when visiting NYC?
Writing the first draft.
all of the above and I really like Heather’s idea. I would like to know the mistakes of the writing process as well.
those all sound helpful, i wish i could give you more ideas but nothing comes to mind
Hmm, getting past the first page?? Outlining, keeping the story going, not letting procrastination get to you….
Thought of another one while I was outlining today, “What to do when you have a bunch of questions reguarding your plot and charicters come up and once”, “How to handle them”, “And how to NOT give up, in disscouragement (word?) at the sight of them….”
I sound bitter and frustrated? What? No, not me! I’ve never been better!
Help… :.(
How about some guidelines for behavior in a critique group? (Online or in person.)
I’m liking all of these suggestions. Keep them coming!
Addictive TV shows to avoid when under deadline?
Patrick, that requires its own separate series: “What Not To Do Anymore, Patrick.” Stay tuned.
