They call him Hollywood
Remember where we all were just a year ago? I was just beginning my official editor-requested edits for Evolution, Me, and Other Freaks of Nature, and my best writer pal Barry Lyga was twiddling his thumbs, waiting for his first novel The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl to come out in September, 2006.
And now he has a movie deal.
Sniff! They grow up so fast!
Okay, seriously, SERIOUSLY–how incredibly cool is this?! Barry has a movie deal! You can read all the sordid (I mean assorted) details here.
And be sure to notice this detail: the director who optioned the book, Jeremiah Chechik, is also the director who made that cult favorite, Benny and Joon.
So now let’s all play the game: Barry is only two degrees of separation away from Johnny Depp.
Wow.
Which makes all of us only three degrees away.
Feel free to brag about that if you wish.
And meanwhile, CONGRATULATIONS, BARRY!!!! WAH-HOOOOOOO!!!!

Wow. I knew when you said you had “signed your name” that it would be big, but wow!
I love Benny and Joon…it’s so lovely and funny. How lucky you are to have a director who won’t flatiron the life out of your book…
(Hey, I read your blog, and you UNDERSTAND options. Not like royalty statements, right?)
Hey that is cool! Congratulations Barry! I love Benny and Joon too.
Robin I tagged you with a new twist on an old meme, if you are into that.
Do you think Fanboy should have a voice over done by James Earl Jones?
OMG! That is super exciting!!!! Congrats!!!! I might have to make my Fanboy and Goth Girl tattoo permanent now! =)
How cool! Congrats Barry!
Congrats,Barry and maybe some of your good luck will rub off on some of your friends, there. I would certainly like to see an Evolution,Me and Other Freaks of Nature movie:)

Hey, thanks, everyone! I’m currently at Book Expo, so I’m only sporadically checking the web, but I really appreciate everyone’s congrats! Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Can’t wait to see it on the big screen — I loved the book; in fact, a review was my — so far — only guest blog entry on MotherReader.
